Interesting thought. I noticed Matt Jones on the postgame show referred to the Big 10 guy as a player who "was in the Sweet 16," and the show was going on while Purdue and Houston were still playing. Made me wonder if he wasn't referring to Smith after all, who knows, could be this guy.
I watched that BYU/Baylor game and saw him go off. So seeing he's in the portal I was pretty excited. The article says it was his best game of the season, maybe my perspective is a little skewed...
Catchings signed with Purdue last year and then asked out of the LOI to go to BYU once he wasn't assured starting role/minutes and Matt Painter basically ripped him and stated that his program will never operate like that.
Ironically--this is the type of thing that has upset some of his current players as they want more talent to have a legit chance to make a run at another Final Four/try to win the National Championship, which could benefit another school this offseason.

Interesting scoop. At the risk of reading too much into this I think you're implying Braden Smith is upset Painter isn't bringing in more talent, and it's the reason there's so much smoke around a possible transfer...
He's one of them but not alone. Guys weren't/aren't happy with the Staff's philosophy. Funny because some of them would lose minutes/rotation spots and be recruited over-so be careful what you wish for. lol
I don't know anything about Smith/Portal but do know that he wasn't happy with some teammates in how they didn't address some positions they felt could be upgraded. That may be why there's rumors/buzz that he'd be in the Portal but the info I've got comes from Cam Heide's camp as he's a former Wayzata player in MN--same HS as Jackson McAndrew (who I would personally drive to Lexington right now if he'd go in the Portal).

Seems like Painter still hasn’t gotten the memo about how everything’s completely different in this new NIL/Portal era.
