If St. Johns-Arkansas goes down to the wire it will be interesting to see which coach gets uptight first.

You just couldn't help yourself could you?
Now he Cal currently has more tournament wins this year than Pope.
Why is everyone giving me grief for pointing out the obvious? Self switched to zone and Cal was like a turtle on its back. His face was screaming "oh no not again". Davis hit that three and saved Cal's butt.

The team that lost to Oakland didn't play a lick of defense the whole season
Say what you want but he's got Fland back and he's got them peaking at the right time.
Instead of being a non factor Aidoo actually taking over games/scoring. St. John may not make it past Omaha. Cal could be cruising to a Sweet 16.

Lol peaking my ***. Theu are a round of 32 team. Arkansas didn't pay for that. Muss got them to back to back elite 8s while cal was losing first round or missing tourney.

He also has as many wins in the tournament this year as he's had in the previous 5 years combined, so there's that too.
He's got something to prove again.
He got fat and happy here. Never said he didn’t crap it up the last several years.

The Davis three was huge but Self actually saved Cal’s butt by putting Dickinson back in the game. KU would’ve won going away if they’d kept him on the bench. Dickinson literally looked like he intentionally threw the game last night - it was that bad.

I'm beyond pissed that Cal finally won an NCAA game again. Especially as a 10 seed.

Dickinson and his parade of turnovers saved Cal's bacon. Arky was dying until Kansas's gawd awful turnover fest brought them back to life.
Cal was clueless how to attack that basic 2/3 zone.

Cal was such a champ the last few years in the tourney..... Look dude... Cal is a terrible floor coach... everyone who works in D1 basketball knows it.

When we were watching this game last night; I told everyone that it looked like Kansas was intentionally trying to lose the game. Throwing passes to no one in crunch time, Dickinson looking completely lost in crunch time, etc. It really made me wonder.

Legit question. Why do some of you hate Cal so much? I really don’t like how the last few years ended, but the guy gave me an awesome decade or so of basketball and then left (albeit a few years too late) on his own, which I still think was a bit of a “sorry for screwing up so much” move on his part. Him leaving saved UK tens of millions of dollars and allowed us to snag Pope as our next coach.

The last several years sucked, but that doesn’t make me despise the guy like some of you all do.

He did a ton of damage to our program. He basically had the job the last 7 years or so with the only interest of getting guys to the NBA. He did nothing to try and win games or the championships. He was taking a salary (not that I paid it) and not doing the job he was being paid to do. Why do you think Barnhart was so quick with the trigger as soon as there was a slight opening to get him out?

For me, it wasn't necessarily the wins or losses. He could have won more and I would feel the same. It was about him being the coach of UK, but having no interest in actually putting effort into the #1 priority of that job.

If he'd have left after 2015, he would have been probably the #2/3 coach in UK's history. As it is, I personally rank him below Rupp, Pitino, Hall, and Tubby. I'm not sure between him and Billy. Gillispie wasn't here long enough to do real damage and I at least believed he was trying to win games.

While all that is true, he took everyone with him, current players and commits and left the cupboard bare. While saving us millions on his buyout, he left us to (as so eloquently put by one of our other posters) to build the plane while flying it this season. Don't hate him for his humanitarian contributions to the state or the early years he gave. He got caught with his hand in the cookie jar trying to set up his next job, simple as that. There is a graceful way to leave a program on good terms and there's the way Cal left... like a pissed off woman when she leaves you and you come home to an empty house and even the dog you had before you met her is gone.

I was watching Cal struggling against the 2-3 zone and I was thinking put Ivisic in and he will break that like he did against Uk. But Cal was stubborn and let Ivisic on the bench.

I was watching Fland and Cal needing 3 tries and 2 time outs to inbound the ball and I had the same thought put Ivisic in….

Arkansas deserved the win…. As St Johns is not a good shooting team and rely on press to wear down the opponents this will be an interesting match up against the athletes of Arkansas. Usually , Calipari ‘s teams do well when pressed…..

Does anybody really believe Fland was hurt the last part of the season? All of a sudden, there he is on the floor with no brace and no visible sign of an injury in their first NCAA tourney game. Cal is so shady.

Clearly you are a punk.

I was and still am a Cal fan...but LEAVE COACH POPE alone!!
He instantly cured what ailed us when Cal resigned.

It seems like Cal is coaching better at Arkansas now than he did with us the last couple of years. He got lazy/comfortable with us at the end, and I resent it.

Maybe for once it was about winning and not the NBA?

I’ll never agree with the argument that Cal wasn’t trying to win. Cal’s issue is that he was too stubborn to change his philosophy (which he used to win a ton of games and a natty title at UK) when it came to team building/style of play. He succeeded when he could get the elite of the elite freshmen to come to UK and simply overwhelm other teams with our talent. Once that talent started falling off, he couldn’t overwhelm teams. Then he never prioritized the 3-ball like other teams did. His stubbornness cost us games. I don’t think it was simply him not caring at all, but that’s fine if you disagree with that.
