He had an unlucky start to the season. He was brought in some bad spots and just had the odds against him.<div>
</div><div>I don't think he's gotten his confidence this year. Those early games this year weren't helping, but I think had he had a little more help earlier he'd be better now. I disagreed last weekend with starting him- he just doesn't have his stuff yet.... I think it was a bad move and his confidence probably took a BIG hit.</div><div>
</div><div>Pitching's pretty mental. I hate it for him, that sucker works hard.</div>

out and I don't see him being effective as a closer......He has no confidence and his teammates have prolly lost that confidence in him as well.........

Of course it's not his fault that he's forced into a closer role and he's no closer. If Bracewell could ever get to 100%, he'd be more the prototype. I just don't get all the work hard stuff regarding this team. Cohen says it every time he finds a microphone. At this point, I really don't give 2 ***** who works hard and who doesn't. The W/L column doesn't have a caveat beside it giving extra credit to who works hard or not.</p>

.... I'm saying he has no confidence right now. He still has good stuff, but I don't think the beginning of the year helped, and I'm not sure he was pitching "awful" then.<div>
</div><div>I know his record. I think last weekend really was a bad move; I just disagreed with it from the moment I heard people calling to start him. He's not there yet obviously, and last weekend probably killed him. I think Cohen was feeling pressure to start him, but I wonder if he really thought it was the best idea.</div><div>
</div><div>I'm a little sensitive to it as I know him, and I know it's killing him that he's not doing well. Believe me. We haven't put him in the best positions either, though, early on, and I was thinking (not him) we should have probably tried to put him in easier situations earlier in the season to try and get his mental game going. I know I'll get pounded and hear that he needs to "man up", but sometimes with pitchers you just need to give them a little confidence. I don't think Caleb ever got that this season.</div>

..the guy mopes around the mound with his head down, looking like he is too bored to be bothered to pitch a game.

His ****** attitude should have him relegated to pitching Tuesday games vs. Miss. Valley & Alcorn.

Only time his **** works is if the other team swings at his slider. He typically can't throw it for strikes.

He has a few pitches that he knows how to work when he is "on". He doesn't have Stratton "stuff", but he's not an idiot. I take mental stuff into account sometimes when I talk about sports, and I think it's a pretty important trait to be strong in.<div>
</div><div>I think he was a bulldog pitcher last year, and I feel confident he could have done that this year. To do it before the end of the year, though, they're going to really have to take him to the side (as I feel they should have done earlier) and put him in easier situations and work him up. Sorry that doesn't appeal to the armchair pitchers out there that never made it past HS (not meaning you specifically, Goat), but it's not as easy as it looks. I promise, that kid feels worse than anyone and it kills him that he's in such a deep rut. He'd LOVE to get out to it and back to old form.</div>

especially right after it happens. I'm sure we'll all wake up tomorrow though. So will Caleb. Honestly, he'll probably put it behind him much sooner than our fans will.

to put him out to pasture. This is big time college baseball and he cannot get it done. He MUST be sat down, or relegated to midweek work, which would be fine. Those games are important, too. Especially the ones we have coming up the next two weeks. But right now, our backs are pressed so hard against the wall we can hardly breathe. After this debacle tonight, our margin for error is down to nothing. Cohen has got to make a move in the closer department, immediately, or we are done, if we are not already. I appreciate what Caleb has done for the team, but it's all about the W's, and we have to move on to the next guy, whoever that may be.

and have thought that for a while. I wish for his sake we had done it sooner and not made it as conspicuous as it is now.<div>
</div><div>I still just can't get over starting him last week. I disagreed with the notion when people were dying for it to happen and I really am just not happy it was done. I think that start alone is going to put him further back than any game this season has, or possibly all those before. Sorry, I just think it was dumb.</div><div>
</div><div>Preseason awards mean nothing. You watch kids in practice and bring them along and realize they may not start out hitting on all cylinders, and that's okay, but it's important to recognize when they need experience, when they need to be held back a little, when they need a boost, etc. I think it was obvious at LSU Caleb wasn't on track for what he was expected to do (though he had some bad spots to come in, agreed) and they needed to focus on the problem(s). He knows a lot rides on his shoulders, and that's probably a heavy load.</div><div>
</div><div>Good luck to Caleb; I really hope, not only for us but for him, that he can just settle in and get comfortable. He can be an effective pitcher being smart, and that's all we need from him.</div>

But there have been many managerial decisions, too many to count, that Cohen and staff have pulled that are really puzzling. Like sticking Bradford in the cleanup position last Saturday, against a lefty at that. I was convinced that Cohen would be able to get the job done eventually, even with the charlie foxtrot he inherited, but I am no longer confident of this now. He has been getting his *** handed to him in recruiting by BOTH in-state schools, and even with a consistent top 25 class year in and year out, it still relegates you to bottom third in the SEC. Just like in football. I don't know the answer and am at a loss. It's time to crack open the rum.

Before tonight Caleb had a 2.87 ERA and had 7 saves for us. Are you serisously going to say he is not our closer? He has 5 losses, yes, but the only 2 that are on him are this and LSU. WSU he threw 6.2 innings and gave up 2 runs. Shouldn't have but we couldn't score on multiple occasions to give him the win. Memphis he gave up 1 unearned run. Arkansas he threw 4+ innings and they finally got to him in his fifth inning? How are yall just going to straight up bash the guy? Has he been as good this year as last? No, but he has still been effective. Tonight sucked but don't act like every closer hasnt had blow ups. Heck he only gave up 1 earned (0-2 double and triples are an absolute no-no in baseball, though, and that was terrible on his part) and Slaughter has got to black that ball up. He is by far the best proven closer we have. You don't become an All-American by not being good.

because I will never bash that kid. And won't bash many others unless they do something just absolutely STUPID (crimes 'n ****).<div>
</div><div>I do think Caleb needs to be taken back a little and worked in smaller games. At this point. I haven't talked to the kid in a while, but I know what type of pitcher he is, and he's not there right now and I really think it's mental. I agree, I think he got put in really iffy spots in the beginning and will not blame that on him alone. Those were going to be hard anyway. But it's been obvious for well over a month he needed to get in a good spot, and sometimes that involves being put in less pressure situations and having success there. I wanted us to do that a while back.</div><div>
</div><div>BUT, I know from being around baseball a lot at a lot of different levels that there are different ways to do things, and I won't always agree.</div>
