Recently speaking... We've kicked *** on the field. They've kicked *** in recruiting. What happens now?

I don't think it does anything for us immediately, but it could definitely cause a swing in recruiting beginning with the 2013 class. For both schools long term, I think the key is to recruit well and have a coach that knows how to develop that talent and get good results on the field. For whatever reason, neither school ever seems to be able to get a coach that can do both of those things really well.

Right after Croom, and Ole Miss right after Brewer, each recovered nicely.

Short term it could lead to an egg bowl being lopsided or a recruiting class being perceived as such, but really, it wont have that long term affect that most of us think it will.

i expect will continue to do so. except for JHV's run in the 50's and 60"s ole miss and state have flopped back and for pretty evenly. when nutt's first team beat msu 45-0 in a game not nearly as close as the score might indicate, some rebels thought we had you down forever. seems they were irrationally exhuberant.. i predict that we'll make a good hire. in the short term if we get on with it and make the right hire, our recruiting will be just fine. if we drag around and muddle it up then bama and lsu will be the primary beneficiaries.

we're competing with 12 other programs as well as with each other....and with some misguided perceptions both pro and con about each of our universities, we're pretty much in the same damn boat...and it rocks back and forth, sometimes turns over, and then rights itself...a never ending cycle.

Long term. Who knows? I'm going to say it looks favorable for State long term also for these reasons:

1) Hiring a coach without being able to tell the guy who he will ultimately work for has got to be a little difficult.
2) The track record with the Cut debacle will still hurt mississippi's credibility.
3) The hiring is being headed by two guys who have never hired so much as a pee wee football coach. (Manning is in charge? Welcome back coach cut?)
4) Even with Boone gone, Jones remains and he is still a divisive figure with the forward rebels crowd.

Who knows? St. Archie's bunch might just hit it out of the park with a hire but if they do I think it'll be more luck than anything and definitely won't be with a 'proven' HC which is ironically what nutt was supposed to be.

may speak volumes....like they've decided that the AD will be a figurehead without too much authority and that the entire direction of the athletic program will be handled by someone outside the organizational chart..or a group of them. Jones doesn't know shat about athletics so he'll depend on these people. Maybe they just don't want a strong AD.

I really don't know how qualified he is to recommend somebody as their HC. What has he really done other than be a failure as a pro player, and sired two pretty good QB's. What is his expertise in leading such a committe....he's just a "name." From what I understand he was instrumental in hiring Cutcliff, and we all know how that turned out.
