Guys,

Call me crazy.... but I'm seeing 6 W's this year. Maybe it was a strong(er) defensive performance against a bad SC team or maybe it's the emergence of Benny as a strong compliment to Boom (I'm liking the "Thunder & Lightning" moniker) but I really think we can get to 6 this year and go bowling.

I'm counting the following games at wins.

1. Vandy
2. Miss St.
3. Missouri
4. Austin Peay

I think those are all very winnable games considering only one of them is on the road.

What say you CAT fans? Can we actually get to 6 and go bowling?

and it would be nice someday if our goals were to get to more than 6 wins..maybe I'm crazy

^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^

I think this should ultimately be the goal. If it's not then we've got a whole mess of other problems.

Like I said, maybe I'm crazy. I think Miss St is a win. Getting them at home is huge. The questionable one is going into Columbia and beating Missouri. That will be the game that determines if we go bowling.

Miss State is a better team, Mizzou is a better team, Vandy is a toss-up. We squeaked out a win against a bad South Carolina team on our home field. Let's take a deep breath..and it would be nice someday if our goals were to get to more than 6 wins..maybe I'm crazy
I feel like we pretty much controlled the game not squeaked. We also lost the turnover battle and still ran the ball down usc throats. I agree with the op i think this team has lots of upside considering the youth on defense

The only one of those I would go ahead and count as a win is Austin Peay. In addition, we ought to beat Vandy at home, but it is not a given.

In the other games, the opponent will be favored by at least a couple points.

Right!! I am sick of settling for Suckreocrity! Call me crazy for wanting to win or compete for SEC east crown. How dare want a true winning football program. No way we Beat Mizz and No way we beat MISS ST. Vandy uuh maybe but Vandy beat Western and western is better then us. Call me crazy for wanting a real coach in here to get the process going to be able to win the EAST.

O.K. you are crazy, now that we have that out of the way UGA might be a more likely win than Mizzou, for the record I think we make a run at 5 wins but because of Sou Miss 6 is probably off the table. We had our Vandy game of last year right out of the gate,Stoops just can't seem to keep form putting himself and the team behind the 8-ball.That is the problem I have with Stoops(the same could be said for a half dozen other UK coaches) win the games you are supposed to win, that will get you to near .500 every year, then build off that by winning one or two you aren't supposed to win.At some point the number of games you are supposed to win will go up by 1 or 2 and viola you have your 8 or 9 win season.People start to pay attention and you build a decent program that can post winning seasons year over year.

WKU of this year isn't WKU of last year and lets get to .500 in the SEC before we worry about winning the SEC east.

Nothing Mark Stoops and our Wildcats have done the past 4 years gives me any hope we can pull off 3 straight SEC wins against Miss St, Missouri and Vandy. The only hope we have is to win those 3 or win 2 out of the three and surprise UGA at their house which is a low low low probability. More than likely we are looking at 4-8 or 5-7...again. I just hope we see improvement to translate over to next year.

Have to play ALOT better on both sides of the ball to beat Mizzou at home & MIss St at home. Vandy performance will tell a bunch on where we are progressing. nothing from this week though.

Getting to 6 wins is a possibility, but no room for error. Chances are good that we will stub our toe somewhere along the way. KY football.

That is the problem! Setting the goal at 6 w. I am sorry I can never get on that type of train and support it. Give me a coach that can build an SEC EAST contender set our Goal each year to get to SEC title game. If I am wrong IDC im ready for a true winning football team not some joke! Every week there is some national media guy taking shots at UK fans and Kentucky team etc... I am sick of it! SCREW MEDIOCRITY OR EVEN SUCKREOCRITY!!

Why is that the problem? News Flash.... You've got to build a team that can get to 6 wins before you can build one that's going to compete for the SEC title each year. Considering we're looking at a team that has not been bowling in a while, I think reaching a bowl game is about the best barometer we have for program progression at this point. I don't think there is a single fan on this board that doesn't want a football program that's challenging the rest of the SEC royalty for Championships. But you have to start somewhere and I don't think that hoping to get to 6 wins this year should be misconstrued as someone who is okay with mediocrity.

Just my opinion though.... And you know they say about opinions..... They're a lot like @*%holes..... Everyone has one and most of them stink.

My problem is week get 6 wins Mitch then thinks hey he got us to the WHO GIVES F--K BOWL We might as well give him another 20 year extention when there are coachs out there that coukd get it done here. We didnt dump 45,000,000$ into football program to just be a 6 win team and to accept 6 wins as our ceiling. Thats just me and as far as I am concerned most people can waller in this pile of SUCK cause we could of been on our way to a real Football team if the right hire was made. Its year 4 under Stoops and aaaahhhhhhhhhhgg im done typing im just done!!!

Lol, you obviously havent watched a Missouri game. Their offense looks like the Patriots compared to South Carolina and they get better each game. Not a chance to beat them or MSU. Vandy has gotten better, they beat WKU, who would prbly beat us. How can people say we have gotten so much better since the USM game but refuse to recognize Vandy has gotten better since their game vs USCjr? Id take Vandy over us. So yeah, id be kinda shocked if we get to 4 wins.

We shouldn't get too carried away but so do I. Still, did Stoop's emphasis on D the past week get them playing better, or is SC's offense THAT bad? As long as we're hoping how about UK reeling off 3 straight against Vandy, Miss St, and Mizzou? Unlikely, but at least we can hope. Imagine going into the Georgia game at 5-3/4-2. Beat Georgia and the Cat's could to go Knoxville with a shot at a share of the SEC East. If your going to be an optimist why not dream big?

OK, back to Monday morning reality now.

Rich Brooks has to look at this schedule and say to himself - where was this when I was here.

Six wins against this schedule should be the floor. Unfortunately, the way this fan base approaches football, it will probably get the guy another undeserved extension.

The USM loss, the shellacking at FL and the win-but-defensively-awful performance against NMSU certainly sucked a lot of optimism from much of the fan base. But the reality is there are 4 more "winnable" games on the schedule. The defense has been even worse than expected but the only thing truly lost so far has been the 1 game cushion and fan confidence in the quest for 6 wins.

Notwithstanding AL of course, as long as the Cats win the preceding game, Vandy, then MSU, then finally Mizzou will each take their turn as Game of the Year for the Cats. JMO

Peace

Even Vandy's defense is bad this year. Unless Johnson is injured, perish the thought, UK should manage a win.

There is no difference between UK, USC, Vandy, MSU and Mizzou. If those teams played a round robin on a neutral field they would all finish 2-2.

That isn't far fetched and I'm surprised so many on here act like it is. To get to 6, we already had to count 3/4 as wins. All but Missouri are home games. I'm not impressed with Miss St or Missouri. We could win both or lose both or split, but both are definitely winnable games. We should beat Vandy and will beat Austin Peay. Whether we should have higher goals than six wins is moot. At this point, it would be an accomplishment and progress.

It is quite sad that the best win that the bottom 5 has this year is at WKU. Think about that for a minute. Vandy's win at a Kentucky directional school is the best of those teams' 10 combined wins.

I think USC has taken step back when they went with McIlwain at QB. I think Orth gives them the best chance to score. I expected them to go with him in the 4Q the other night but they seem to be comfortable with going with a youth movement and finishing 4-8.

I have to disagree a bit. Vandy doesn't look like much to me. Yes they beat Western, but Western is a shadow of last years team. That is their only real accomplishment and I'm not sure Western can beat USM. We are a different team now and I think we beat USM pretty easy in a rematch. Missouri is all about the passing game, which is much better for us than, say, UGA, who will run the ball all day on us. Miss St doesn't have any great wins either. It's all going to depend on who has improved the most when those games come around. I prefer to stay positive.

Like everyone else I hate the bowl win expectations but it is what it is right now. I'd be excited for us to play in the post season. We will never be a 8+ winning team until we get a coaching staff that can develop our players. Our team lacks the discipline to play fundamental football. That is the first step. Once they get the basics then we need staff who can develop the players into playing above par.

Until we see change, the bowl game expectations will not change.

What have you seen that would lead you to believe UK could blow USM out in a rematch?

Read more carefully. I said beat them easily. That isn't saying a blowout. I think the defense has improved enough to prevent the second half collapse from game 1 and the offense is playing much better as well.
