Questions for those that build their own PC's.

I'd like something to hook up to my TV through HDMI for streaming things my Roku isn't capable of/doesn't have an app for, Internet browsing, word processing, and that's basically it. Would I be able to hold something like that for $200ish and if so what would I need? I already have a wireless keyboard and an external hard drive.
You can buy an HDMI or usb cable and hook up to laptop, turn your tv into a monitor. $5-$10

Yes I'm fully aware you can do that. I don't want to do that though, I want a desktop dedicated to the TV.

Do you even know what USB is?
Yes i do. But im not familiar with the ipad, and didnt know if i could move files between my pc and ipad. I understand they are different animals and not very compatible. Thus i thought i would ask the geek squad while i was here.

You could do that for 200 dollars, but i myself do it through a laptop as already suggested.

the advantages of the laptop is that uses minimal power, quieter and maybe more easily hidden. you can also find good refurbished laptops for 200 dollars

googling inexpensive HTPC builds comes up with any info you need, i would use something like that as a starting point to thinking about where you want to go with it.

basically you don't need much, also with black friday and holiday shopping season coming you can usually find good deals. all you need is some cpu, ram, mobo (probably ITX the smallest form factor and then a cheap ITX case (match case size to mobo size adn match cpu socket to mobo socket and ram to mobo compatibility) usually have power supply included and some sort of storage)

This thing is coming out or is already available, not sure which. I'll probably pick one up for kicks and see what it does.

There is also a Raspberry Pi but given your level of computer knowledge I wouldn't recommend it.
I'm not sure who you think you're talking to or why you chose my post to pick on, but Netflix; father is all we need to say each time you post. I'm sure Rafters could use a genius such as yourself to help them out.

Hey dumbass, I was talking to the person who was looking at options. So dumbass, you might want to work on your reading comprehension instead of acting like a UNC graduate.

It's funny wildcatboston84 could be making the most valid points ever, but all I see when I read his posts are, "I charge my dad $5 to use my Netflix."

Every single post

So this was referring to me?

You're going to talk about someone's computer knowledge and then recommend a Rasberry Pi for a media center/internet browsing computer?

This guy doesn't really charge his dad $5 to use Netflix does he?
I don't charge him. I gave him my login for free, then he voluntarily decided on his own to pay for half of it. Some folks on here are too stupid to understand what "voluntarily" means though.

Yes, a Raspberry Pi is perfectly suited for such a usage. I actually know one person that has turned a Raspberry Pi into one. I hate it, mainly because he has Linux running on it though.
