As somebody that doesn't watch NASCAR, it seems like Dale Earnhardt is obsessed about in the same way Alabama fans still worship Bear Bryant.

I know he was one of the best drivers ever, but it seems kind of weird that he's still obsessively talked about a decade later.

And half of our fans don't wear #18 jerseys. Like I said, I wasn't trying to be rude or anything, I just don't understand the reverence for him and was hoping you might could explain it.

of his death at this race at this track in turn 4. He was also one of the first personalities to put NASCAR in the mainstream and not be a regional sport. His personality combined with his success and driving style made him as big as the sport. After this race, it will probably quiet down and be just about racing.

reception for him at Blackwell Chevrolet. I wasn`t a huge NASCAR fan and didn`t quite understand the hoopla (people had formed a quarter mile long line to get his autograph) but Earnhardt was just one of those bigger-than-life people like Bear Bryant who won big but was still "one of us". Don`t know how to describe the guy other than the dude just had "it".
