Something else we must remember:
Just like we took our 2019 frustrating Elite 8 loss out on MSU this year, Louisville did the same to us. You know they were motivated from the get go and it certainly reminded me of what we did to Michigan State.
Also, like many have said, we have taken plenty of bad L’s in Jan, early Feb and still went on to make a deep run in the tournament.
2010: Lost to Georgetown, and ended up winning the National Championship. Also won the ACC tournament that year.
2013: Literally got run out of the gym against Miami, and still made the elite eight, with a chance to go to the final four, where we lost to Louisville, who ended up winning the whole thing.
2015: Lost to NC state, Miami, and Norte Dam in Jan, went into overtime with Va. Tech who was one of the worst ACC teams that year, and ended up sweeping unc and winning the national championship. We ended up losing to ND in the ACC tournament,
2016: it was at a point in the middle of this season, where some experts I remember reading started wondering if Duke was going to even make the NCAA tournament, but Duke when on to have that epic game against unc and Virginia, and we ended up making the sweet sixteen(that was a success for that team)
2017: injuries killed us that season and it looked like we were fading away especially after losing to a 3-13 NC State. I know we didn’t have the NCAA tournament success that year, but we ended up improving enough to where we won the ACC tournament and were even in the conversation for a 1 or 2 seed. Ended up getting a two seed
2018: Lost to Boston College, a really really bad St. John’s team and still made the elite eight where we were a Grayson Allen roll that literally rolled all over the rim but didn’t go in shot away from being in the final four.
2019: we all know how about that season. Shoe gate happened and even when Zion came back we didn’t look like that same team before Zion got injured. Still.. ended up getting to the elite eight where we were a missed FT away from being in the final four.
2020? Not sure yet how this season pans out, but going back through the decade, we have this trend more often than not where we slump in Jan, early Feb, and still ended the season on a positive note.
