He is coming in next weekend for his first official visit. I read that he is good friends with Jevay Green, whom we just got to re-affirm his commitment. Matt A was his recruiter when he was committed to St. Johns. He would be an absolute HUGE get in my opinion. If we could have Mack, Green, Roby, and mix in some others we could very well be competitive next year.

Don’t forget about Burke that dudes a competitor! Gotta find another big though especially if Roby bolts. I talked to a manager of the b-ball team and he said all Roby wants is to get to the league. He said it’ll take quite a bit of recruiting By Fred or a bad grade by the NBA for him to come back.

Of which I can’t blame him! I was surprised he came back this year.

This is really good news. He's an immediate impact player at point and along with Jervay and Burke that gets us to 3 guys that can play in the rotation. Only about 5 to 7 more guys to find.

One step at a time young Jedi....learn to walk, first we must....then run we shall.... Let’s get us a starting 5 with talent and then worry about the back ups next.

Crazy how fast things can change. Less than two weeks ago, he said outright he wasn't coming here.

I think that was originally just to say he wasn’t following our Assistant Coach (sorry I can’t spell that name ;) ).

I think if we hold onto Roby, which I think is unlikely we could return to the NIT next year, maybe more. Hoiberg wasn't a household name his first year and Matt A. wasn't the transfer whisperer. I think we can build a winner in a hurry and I for one am psyched.

Don't expect Hoiberg to recruit traditional big men. He never had a guy taller than 6'8 during any of his years at ISU, and very few that were above 6'6. His teams live and die by the fast break and the 3-pointer.

If we can land Mack and the staff can find a couple big man that can run this won’t be much of a rebuild. Easier said than done.

Mack has some baggage but can outright ball. I'd be shocked if Matty A doesn't seal the deal this weekend.

It's crazy to think that this roster will have damn near 100% turnover for players that played meaningful minutes. If Fred can land two impact stretch 4's and this team can gel quickly there's no reason they can't be moderately competitive year one.

Until we have a bruiser down low, B1G play is going to always work against us. Roby comes back, Heiman puts on 20 pounds of muscle... Kerry Blackshear Jr. = Highest Priority IMO. Get him and we can talk successful season next year

Yeah, gonna have to agree to disagree after looking at his rosters. Almost every season he had at least 4 players who were 6-8 or taller. His last season in Ames he had 6-8, 6-8, 6-9 and 7-1 on the roster. His roster had more big players than Miles had. Georges Niang started at Center for him for 2-3 seasons. He was 6-8 230lbs so yes he wasn't the biggest player but still nothing like the "very few that were above 6-6". Heck in Fred's 2nd season at ISU he had Royce White bringing the ball up as a Point Forward and he was 6-8 260.

Below link has his roster from his last season at ISU. He likes outside shooters but people saying he doesn't recruit any bigs need to look at his past rosters.

Hoiberg doesnt give a flying f about defense. He wants guys that can put it in the hole. He hired Doc to deal with the bruisers using double teams and traps.

The idea that the NBA doesn't play with centers anymore is ludicrous as well. They're different than when they had Parrish and Jabbar patroling the paint, but the NBA still uses "centers". They may call them something different and use them a little differently but they're still large and physical guys who are bigger than Dave Cowens (6-9) was back in the day.

The major difference is no one wants a center who can't make a 3. Joel Embiid is the exception because he is a unicorn monster in the Shaq mold. And, I've heard talk on the radio (for whatever that's worth) that the Philly should trade either Embiid or Simmons because you can't have two guys on the floor who can't shoot a 3.

I agree with everyone. We want to run and shoot, but hopefully we have SOME size and ability to defend in the post.

I'm pretty sure we have a 7 footer visiting this weekend. So there's that.

I think it was clouse. Yes, he’s visiting other schools
I believe his only other visit was to aTm in May(5-7?)but he has since cancelled that official visit. He has said that he will now visit aTm unofficially, but doesn’t know when. With him and Jervay Green being good friends, I like our chances. Hopefully he has a good visit this weekend.
