Not saying we won't get him in the end, but no way am I getting my hopes up for him any longer. Maybe he will surprise me, but I'm already looking forward to Russell now.

He's not the second coming of Tebow regardless of what he and his agen..uh...parents might think. It would have been nice to have him in maroon but he's looking more and more like a prima dona that would be a potential cancer to the team. It's time to move on-lets pursue the best available HS qb and lay it on Russell and Relf for 2010. I have no doubt Russell can get it done.

So.....if he wants a duffle bag full of cash.......should we drop it off?

Seriously....how bad do you want to win?

It's just cash. Everybody's doing it. It won't hurt anyone.

This guy has never committed to us and never even said we were the leader until very recently. Hopson was committed to us for a year and was even still committed when signing day happened. How is this Scotty Hopson, part II? Its just simply a guy making sure he makes the right decision. And people are saying !#!! Newton and stupid **** like that. It is amazing how dumb a fan base can get during recruiting.

to annoint him like others on here did. i still want to and hope we sign him, but it's not looking good for the home team. Let's hope TR came on as strong as reported toward the end of the season.

I'm not scared about the new offer that was told to us last night. I still think we may be leading over the other schools. The fact that Mullen went to talk to him yesterday scares me a little. Cam did say that when he was here that they really didn't talk all that much about recruiting but I kind of find that hard to believe. Look at it this way, Coach Mullen is not going to be out recruited by any of the other schools when it comes to Newton. We have been on him from day one and continue to show our deep desire for him to come be part of MSU. The kid was high on us after the Egg bowl and wants to make sure he is making the right decision.

... i flip-flop every few days. But from reading the last article, I get the impression the visits he is taking don't mean ****. Hell, he doesn't even know where he is going for his visits... how serious could he be about attending one of those schools?

i don't know much about the other schools, but they could not offer a better position for an incoming JUCO QB with an already burned RS year (he has played 3 years right?).

-Our senior starting QB is gone with no absolute heir-apparent behind him.
-An offense that is tailor-made for his talents.
-A good, complete offensive line coming back.
-All of our WR coming back except B.Mc (but he never really recovered from that injury).
-Not to mention he will be on TV for every conference game and probably some OOC games.
-he already has a close relationship with the head coach.

I cannot imagine any other school being able to offer him half of those stipulations. It seems like a "no-brainer" to me. (I did just rewatched the eggbowl last night so my contacts are as maroon as they get.) Believe it or not I actually think AD graduating could help since Newton won't have to play 2nd fiddle.

Could have been a trip to just get a feel where he stands. I'm sure Mullen wants to know if he needs to do a full court press on plan B or just sit tight.

I fear Auburn could offer him almost all of what we can offer and without the log jam at QB. You're kidding yourself if you don't think there is a log jam. Newton might be the best on paper, but when he gets to MSU, don't think he still won't have to compete for the job. I'd hate to know that all the Russell hype was for nothing. I'd like to believe there's something in Stegall. And well Relf's current abilities are clear and he has alot of room for improvement and don't think he doesn't have the drive to be better now.

I feel like MSU is still tops on his list also, but in light of the news, don't be surprised if another team leap frogs us. I can definitely see him committing to Auburn as much if not more that MSU. MSU and KSU have been tops for the longest, that's why I say we are in the lead. I believe we were in the bag for the 15th announcement and that's why they said and set that date. I see what Newton is looking for at least. KSU is a decent choice in the easier division of a top Big 12 conference. I just don't think he'll have a lot of help around him, but it would be an easier road to a Big 12 championship, and might be the best destination to fluff his stats. Oklahoma is now looking at him. I think that would be a riskier choice but more national exposure and more help around him. But he'd have to compete more for the job in an offense that isn't all him and one of his top priorities is playing immediately and throughout the next two years. We probably fit most to a tee, and if Mullen alludes that he has the job and the offense will be built around him, that would probably seal the deal, but I don't know that Mullen would do that, and an SEC road is always the hardest. I know Cam's goal is to get to the NFL as a high draft pick. And that's what he's thinking about in his choice the most. This is why Auburn as a choice still scares the heck out of me. They graduate a Sr. who wasn't very good either and a bunch of freshmen backed him up, and Auburn being a rival of Bama and their previous showing against Bama says it might be easier to take down the No. 1 team in the SEC West.

I seriously hope Mullen is the x factor in this, he's the only unique chip we have in the game that the others don't have. I think it will be best case scenario or worst case...he goes to MSU or he goes to Auburn. Either way, Russell has got to man up and compete with him one way or another, and if we have to compete against Newton in the 2nd game of the year, well as you would expect there's going to be blood.

I think we are in the drivers seat, and Mullen asked him to delay his commitment. We are trying to get a high school qb on board and we are worried Cam's commitment might scare him off. Just looking for the silver lining. I know after Crxxms it's hard to believe we could be this good at the recruiting game. Maybe just maybe we are.

I think we still have a good chance. Newton will sign with someone in December. Brunetti or whatever HS QB we might sign will be a February signee. The high school quarterback will already know that Newton would be at MSU.

anybody else. He could start there very easy. It would be kind of weird for their relationship if he was to commit to Auburn and end of playing against Mullen. One thing is for sure though is that his team mate Hayes is in love with KSU and he is trying to get Cam to go there with him.

Auburn scares me the most. I think Malzahn can feed him alot of BS about the stats he could put up in their crazy *** offense - which could be true I guess. OU is the high risk/high return choice. He would get the best exposure there, but the chances of him not getting playing time are the highest there. KSU is very comparable to us. But, we edge them out with Mullen. I think it comes down to us and Auburn. The wool on me says Mullen pulls it off.

All that said, watch the guy commit to OU and warm the bench for Landry for two years - or be converted to a TE.

This is what I keep trying to tell people. If we want to recruit the best we are going to have to battle the big boys, and a lot of those guys let the process play out before making a decision. Just look at all the people who got up in arms when McPhee held off on signing at the beginning of the December period last year and appeared to be wavering. A lot of our fans said stupid **** like, "forget him, I only want players who want to be at Mississippi State." We all see how that worked out for us.

Maybe some people are content to battle it out with Samford and Troy State for Josh Hollingsworth and Ty Evan.

I know that recruits don't read these boards but our rivals do and could assemble anything negative to show to newton and his dad to use against us. I know we don't want anyone on our team that would be influenced by a messageboard, etc... but you never know.

I would just wait.

now go ahead and bring the sheep like insults. I'm boarding a plane in SF and wont be around to see them.

It's incentive if it's incentive for Cam. Good bulletin board material though when he goes head to head against Brantley who I believe took his spot.

I personally feel like Newton is in the bag. Also Nutt was down in Oak Grove yesterday to "plead" with Robert Johnson to come to *#$! and not State. I think Mullen is kicking everybodys *** out there!

I think we need this battle for Cam Newton. We all know that other recruits look at the big guys like this and see which schools they go to, especially if its a school they are interested in. I would think that someone like Vincent Sanders or Robert Johnson are very aware of this situation and how its been playing out. If we get Cam Newton through all of this other garbage with him taking a bunch of other visits, WR's like Johnson and Sanders are going to want to come here. To get good WR's, you have to fight for a good QB with some top programs. I think thats the reason we got Bumphis, Sanders, and Heavens. Because we had a solid QB commit from Russell. These skill players pay attention to who you put around them, and if we get Cam, I think Johnson commits in a hurry, and maybe Sanders starts to look at us much more.</p>

I get pissed watching Bama worried and watching a different press conference ever year. Meanwhile, I sit there and the only question I have is whether or not our DT is going to sign in jail.

Let's get in on this big boys.

Plus Kansas state had a top 10 draft pick last year if you recall,
and he played qb. You don't think they are milking that seeing
that he wants to go somewhere that gives him the best chance
at the NFL? Plus big 12 defense is a joke compared to sec, so he
could have better stats. I'll be more suprised, very exicted, but more
suprised if he committs here.

Let me think on this for a bit. I'm offered an all expense paid trip to SEVERAL major universities. While there, I'll be treated like a king, wined and dined with probable alcohol and women involved and all I have to do to get it is say I'm interested. My bags are packed!! I'm interested!!!

Even if I'd already told CDM that I'm a Bulldog, I'd still take my trips and enjoy the experience.

Lets not jump to conclusions and say stuff like <17> Newton. Let him enjoy the experience like all of us would. If he goes elsewhere, so be it, that's what recruiting is all about.
