State, I think, is missing the boat in that the NCAA has changed in regards to how they view "cheating". I have no idea if Ole Miss is "cheating" in getting these visits or not, but the fact is that the Cam Newton situation taught us one thing. The NCAA doesn't give a **** about cheating anymore.

When is the last time an SEC school was on major probation? Hell, when State reported Newton, Slive reprimanded State. Auburn played for the NC and got no investigation for that. They want to hide all such "cheating". It's open season. The money has gotten so good, nobody cares anymore. The money and the brand "SEC" is what matters more.

This is one thing we need to learn for next years recruiting season.

Disagree.

The culture at MSU is not the same as it is at auburn and ole miss. Our boosters are not willing to do what it takes, and our administration are not willing to overlook what they could. We are terrible at cheating. If we cheat, we will get caught.

Recruits are going to do what they are going to do.....

At some point, there's just nothing the coaches can do about it. I do know this: Cam Newton was in it for Cam Newton. Yeah, he wanted his team to win, but he was in this thing temporarily to get to the NFL. I think he was looking for the big fish the entire time. I'm starting to think that our coaches did an unbelievable job just to keep us in the running with him. At the end of the day, I don't know if we ****** up and he wanted to go to State, or he just wanted to go to the bigger stage. But I'm leaning towards the latter.

On another note, I blame the coaches for C.J. Johnson. He wanted to go to State. We ****** that up somewhere behind the scenes. I'm hoping we're not doing that with Chris Jones and Deon Mix as well. These are Mississippi guys. All you have to do is see the shoulder chip that Johnson has about us....it showed in the Egg Bowl, his tweets, etc. Look at the one he posted the other day about being thankful not to have to take the Starkville exit. That crap usually doesn't happen, we pissed him off big time somewhere along the way. That falls on the coaches.

This crap about telling recruits not to take visits, that has to end. They SHOULD take their visits. All of them, every single one, no matter who they are committed to. They should take all five, and the coaches should get the **** over it. Every coach, on every team. It's a free market.

End of the day, Cam is forgivable, but if the coaches piss off more high-level recruits like they did in 2011, heads need to roll. Especially with the premium we put on recruiting the State of Mississippi. Money and all that crap is just secondary, the recruit will go where they want. Not many just get completely bought like Marcus Dupree did.

ONLY because WE will self report it...

and if you force the NCAA's hand (like in the Cam Newton or Will Redmond cases) they will take a cursory look. So I will agree in the part you say about we aren't willing institutionally to look the other way where pretty much everyone else in the SEC apparently will.

How do you make your speculation that CJ flipped due to some as yet undisclosed screw up by our coaches fit these facts:

(1) CJ started wavering and decommitted during the dead period when he was out of contact with our coaches.
(2) The reason CJ provided at the time was the departure of Manny Diaz.
(3) CJ has never held back his true feelings.

Also, I know all sorts of MSU fans who make similar remarks about Oxford, what did Nutt or Freeze do to them to piss them off?

Yep, the NCAA likes low hanging fruit.

They have no subpoena power. Therefore if they don't have people volunteering information or paid snitches, then they are SOL on gathering statements, bank records, and etc. Tough to build a case on what something looks like without any evidence to support it.

Redmond had a nice ride. Someone gave the newspaper and NCAA the information. Dodson has a badass car. Nobody is calling head to head and talking about #7s car.

That's as far as I go. I told you the tangible things (tweets/his play and actions towards MSU). Read into it what you will. The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. Indifference is not what C.J. Johnson is showing towards MSU. He's going out of his way to bash us. Why else would he do that? I know alot of crap gets tossed with the rivalry and all, but it's usually not the players who do it. C.J.'s the biggest Ole Miss recruiter of MSU commitments. There's a reason for that, and I'm sure Chris Jones has been told that reason.

MSU brings so many problems on ourselves. We have enough to deal with in addition to fighting our internal battles. We need to quit looking outwards and blaming everybody else. Let's look in the mirror, fight that demon, then start worrying about Ole Miss/Slive/etc. That's the only reason this negative PR gets to us.

did to piss off CJ Johnson (coaches included) if it wasn't impermissible benefits related? Manny and Hud left but both got really good opportunities so don't know why CJ would have gotten upset with us over that. Nobody told CJ he couldn't visit somewhere before he decommitted from us that I'm aware so that wouldn't seem to be an issue. I think there are enough rumors to make me at least THINK I know why he got upset and that would seem to be we weren't willing to "match offers" with OM when, again, it got to January (our favorite recruiting month). I mean it was at OM where he got his lanyard ripped off his neck and yelled at during the Egg Bowl. In the end though THAT didn't seem to offend him at all.

Per CJ himself in an episode of The Season (Ole Miss masturabation material), he was at the Army All-American game when Hudspeth called him to tell him that he was taking the U-LL job but told him to stick with State. Then later that week, Diaz took the Texas job. Apparently Hud was his main recruiter while of course Diaz was position coach/D-coordinator and they were the two coaches he was closest with. (May have been the only ones he was close to, the way it sounded.)

I'm sure some of his disdain for State has to be the way the fanbase turned on him after he decommitted (**** girls swallow/new truck).

Can't believe I'm saying this, but you and I are in complete agreement about recruits taking their visits. Mullen's approach really seems to be back-firing. Coach Orgeron, for all his faults and incompetence, told our commitments to take any visit they wanted. It just seems like you're hiding something if you're telling them not to take a visit.

Not only that, but just when the rumors got out that he may even CONSIDER re-thinking his decision. Same as Chris Jones is doing right now. At least as fans, we handled the Jones situation much better.

But as you can see with the deal getting ripped off him at Ole Miss, fan actions don't necessarily mean that much. It goes deeper.

I think we really have to take a long hard look at our recruiting program and make some changes. I'm not saying go full Ole Miss mode, but our tactics aren't getting the bigger prospects here.
