I don't think he would have to worry about that. I know that Mullen has used two QB systems before, but he also has used one QB systems before if he had a QB that was good enough- see Alex Smith and Tim Tebow.

If Newton comes he will start.

Russell will be the back-up.

Relf will be an athlete/wildcat.

Good way to think about things; but I think he will have to realize that we have Tyler Russell, Relf, Stegall that will create some competition! I am looking forward to it during spring. Now.... IF he can distiguish himself without becoming promised anything by signing, then that is ok. BUT, there are no promises on being #1 and no promises that we will run two QBs next season. Prove yourself is what these QBs will need to do in the spring.

Makes you wonder if that's an indirect dig at MSU, the part about platooning that is. I would think he's smart enough to understand that MSU platooned out of necessity this year. And, frankly, nobody can offer him any guarantees at any school, at least not if they're telling him the truth.

When he sees that we have Relf and Russell who could easily see the field, whereas Auburn can say they just graduated their lone starting QB in Todd and Oklahoma will promise him the moon as far as national exposure goes.

is not good enough to beat out a guy with no collegiate experience and Chris Relf, we're wasting our time recruiting him.

You bring in JUCO guys to fill holes. One of which is at the QB position. I mean, I think Russell will be very good at MSU, but unless he's the next coming of Joe Montana, and he probably isn't, that's kind of a dicey proposition. And while I like Relf's athleticism and think he has good value, the fact remains that we can't count on Chad Bumphis to be in the right place at the right time for his erratic passing, and I think he's so raw, that I don't think he will ever be better than average as a passer. And even that may be wooly.

I think he wants to play, and I don't blame him. Much in the same way that I'm sure Tyler Russell wants to play. If a QB doesn't want to start, we don't need to be recruiting him either. We don't need a SEC version of JaMarcus Russell while he is with the Raiders.

And if I was Dan Mullen I would have no problem guaranteeing him the starting job. And I would have no problem being honest with Russell and Relf about it, to.

Oklahoma is not going to bury Landry Jones on the bench and Auburn is not going to not use Kodi Burns. We aren't signing a TE and Relf could still get some touches in the Hernandez role as option TE. He can split out, motion and hell even transfer if he wants to. If we get Newton I personally don't care if he leaves.

This means that Russell gets to sit two years and play as a redshirt Junior and come in with a much flatter learning curve. I feel really good with him narrowing it down to us, a school with a proven freshman QB and a school who already has an effective dual threat QB. We just have to keep Russell happy and hope he stays.

Put it like this, I will be surprised if Newton doesn't come to Miss. State. Everything I have been told hasn't changed since last spring. After Dec. 22nd the debate will shift to what number should he wear....ugh......

i think this hurts oklahoma's chances more than us. they're the only team of the 3 with a young qb who seemingly has a stronghold on a starting job.

Cameron Newton is steadily convincing me that Cameron Newton is a head case.

Why? Because he keeps internet posters guessing about what the f**k he is going to do?

Sure Auburn is a big time program and closer to his Atlanta home, but Mullen and MSU have been on him forever and we have always been listed as one of his top schools. I think Oklahoma is out of the picture now. Robertson said that OU offered him as a tight end.

He's from Ga right? He will be a homer and go with Aub and his excuse to Mullen will be my parents could make it to every game.

you still play Cam over Russell? I hope they told him with our situation at QB you have a great opportunity to be our starting QB. I'll be glad when he signs with whoever. Getting a little tired of his 'it's about me' comments.

Mullen coached Newton and Newton knows the system.

Orgeron didn't have a clue how to use Schaeffer.

Totally different situation here.

Do you think that Mullen left Lee in much longer than he should have been in some games to send Newton a message. I wonder if Mullen called Newton after the games and told him, "see, I really want to go with one QB if I can." Maybe the Ninja had Mullen do this as part of ninja training.

Who is this proven freshman QB you speak of??? Our freshmen did not play one play in a real game. Practice is nice but a game is so much different. No one is proven till they earn it in an SEC game.

he is playing everyone, in my opinion. If he signs with us, great. If he signs elsewhere, good luck to him. In the meantime I could not care less where he visits or what he says. I think he is afraid of competition and is trying to find a guaranteed spot.

Have you lost your damn mind??? I hope that was a weird attempt at a joke.... No way in hell any coach would leave lee in there if they had another choice.

IF we end up getting him, of course. The message his signing sends to the rest of the recruits is that we can go toe to toe with the perceived upper echelon programs and pull a top recruit, so maybe we're worth heightened consideration by the guys who will sign in February.

That's why it's called the recruiting GAME. Not every player us going to profess their undying love for your team months early and hold to their word. Do you really want a whole class like that? It happened before, it was called Croom's no offer SWAC recruits. Give me some signing day surprises, something unexpected. Do you not remember how boring as **** it was with Croom's classes when all the LOIs from his 1 and 2 star gems rolled in and we were done by 10 am on signing day? I don't care if Cam or anyone else wants to flip cartwheels all over the SEC on their visits. If we end up with the signature when it counts, I'll be pleased as ****.

situation for himself...

Some of you guys that are tired of the Cam Newton thread need to get ready cause we will have about 10 of these players going like this next year. Players that are good enough to go anywhere they want often take time and find the best situation.

Cam is a Jr so he has 3 less years that a Fr QB coming on to campus.

...
This is great for MSU. He knows he is in a platoon with Landry and you know Auburn has better QB's than us they have 5 scholly and we have 1.
He is taking his time. You guys need to calm down and enjoy the pub!

I feel the same way. If we dont get, we weren't supposed to anyway. If we do get him, we get hear/read how OU only offered him as a TE and that Auburn never really offered him at all and that will be satisfaction enough.

Its about damn time someone put on a State hat at one of these God-forsaken press conferences.
