Per BDJ. Gives me a bad feeling. Giving himself an extra weekend to take another visit. Hopefully not to Auburn.

I will be very concerned if he goes to Auburn. With Rollison being suspended for unspecified violations, Auburn doesn't really have a lot of talent at QB. They can offer him the same thing we can.

You say he now has another weekend to take a visit, but he isn't even sure his schedule will allow that due to finals. If he is confident enough to set a date for any announcement without even setting the other visit I think it has to be between us and OU.

i am with you i think he didn't announce on the 16th because of finals and he wants to talk it over with his family face-to-face

I do think he wants to take another trip, but it is just to be with the hostesses... i don't fault him for that... enjoy the show/process!

I think Cam has handled this process very mature. If he goes somewhere else, I will believe that more, cause I really feel like we are #1 right now...

I do not know the deadline but the day has to be coming soon that he will have to sign in order to enroll in the spring. We went through all of this with Russell last year and his visit to Bama. I know that Russell was a commit but you would have thought that he was not by the way everyone felt. I do agree that I would be the most afraid if he takes a visit to the plains.

since he will need to declare soon so that he can enroll in the spring semester? admittedly i don't know the last date that he can sign and still be able to enroll. maybe that is what i am missing in your statement.

Just commit by letting the coach know like everyone else. I never have liked 'I'm so important that I need a press conference'. Plus history has not been good to us at these things.

He's the top QB prospect in the country, people do care outside of just the schools with a shot at him.

After following all of Newton's comments and now the "press conference called for a juco player", I'm lead to make some to make some assumptions about his level of maturity.

Maybe I'm way off base, though.

"Honestly I didn't know what to expect coming to Oklahoma," Newton told Rivals.com network Web site SoonerScoop. com, "but right now I'm speechless and in awe of what I saw in the last 48 hours."

DM: What do you think the chances are of a QB like you and a team like us... ending up together?
CN: Well, Coach, that's difficult to say. I mean, we don't really...
DM: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you, Cam. The least you can do is level with me. What are our chances?
CN: Not good.
DM: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
CN: I'd say more like one out of a million.
[pause]

DM: So you're telling me there's a chance... *YEAH!*

if Relf had not had a career best performance that Newton witnessed at egg bowl and Tyler Russel was not in the shadow, i say Newton would already be a Bulldog....

I doubt real seriously Cam Newton is leaset bit concerned about competing for the starting QB job with Chris Relf and a QB that has yet to take a snap in college...

well your crazy if you don't think he will have to compete for the starting job. And your insane if you think Russel and Relf will not be competitive in that job....

No, i am a rational thinking alumni that doesn't get caught up in the hype of an individual. What makes everyone think that Newton is bright enough to come in and learn a offensive system immediately to the point he will get 95% of game day snaps. You will be amazed out how redshirting russel has allowed him to learn the playbook where Mullen can orchestrate a gameplan with more than 40% of his play book, like we had to settle with this year....

I say Newton knows he has to compete for the job and is confident in his ability to win it. He sees Relf can't throw. He sees Russell hasn't taken a snap yet.

can't be that tough to get back into the spread option/ zone read after two years in it and one year away.

then you're not thinking that rationally. Newton's had more time in our offensive system than any QB we currently have on our roster.

Newton is being brought here to be the starting QB...the only competition will be for the back-up job

I agree Fabloser, the point i was trying to make. Newton is aware of decent competition we currently have at the QB position and I think that is in the back off his mind when weighing his options to be a bulldog. Do i think Newton is the superior athlete and qb, YES, do i think he would come in and play immediately undeserving... NO. He want to be able to walk into a program and be GIVEN a starting role, You will not find that in any rising program...

If Auburn or North Carolina were to factor into it, he'd move back his decision again. Right now it's us or Oklahoma. I think we get him now, if, as Doc says, the events of today continue to run their course into tomorrow.

How about...he spent 2 years at Florida learning this offense? So shouldn't you re-word it to "come in and REMEMBER an offensive system immediately"?

we don't run the same offense as florida. we run a offense that our players and talent is capable of executing... Newton will be a great asset to the team not doubt, i just don't see him being the difference in us winning 8 games vs 6 games

Honestly, if he can't beat out a guy that is hitting port-a-potties in practice and a guy with no college experience, we don't need to be recruiting him.

Let me put it this way- this would be like the Raiders bringing in Peyton Manning and making him "compete" for the job with JaMarcus Russell and Bruce Gradkowski.

He will have time to learn- actually re-learn the playbook and he will actually probably run the offense better than Russell or Relf can. When you think about it, Newton has actually had more time than either one of those two to learn the playbook because he RS and then played his Fr. year. Russell and Relf have only been with Mullen for a year. Plus, coming in the spring is going to give him time to learn it adequately.

Agreed on already knowing where he is going with a Dec 22 presser.

OU - Jones back-up and a few special packages for the Wild Fig Newton

MSU - starting QB for 2 years if he wants it

...I see him being the main reason we win 8 games instead of 6. Maybe 8 instead o 4 or 5 again.

related to either Relf or Russell...

We run a great deal of the same offense as Fla does...and you also saw the difference Relf made against Mississippi by just making a couple of throws...Newton is Relf x 2...You can say this or that, and doubt this or that- but if he signs with us, he will be the starting QB, and we will be very good offensively with him running it.

I hope we get newton and think he will be a great asset to the team, however one player does not affect the outcome of a game in college football like it does in basketball. We will win the same amount of games with or without Newton period. I am getting off this subject b/c i know everyone will find a way to disagree. I am not setting my self up for disappointment if he choose another team.

And I am not knocking Russell. I think it could be a verry good thing for Russell if Newton signs with us. He will have at least 1 year (probably 2) to continue to watch and learn. And we will dust off Relf for the Egg Bowl again next year and see if Ole Miss has learned to tackle by then...

GO BULLDOGS! we are fortunate for once to be able to debate the QB position at MSU and looking forward to seeing newton win his starting role. Does Russel stay if so?.
