Some MSU guys have it dead set in their minds he is going there.

"I know. He is Bulldog. I followed up today again and I am now 100% certain. It is a done deal. Dan is very pleased about his new QB as well he should be. Auburn will be fine with all their very talented Qb's but I am elated to find out that Cam is a DOG!!!!!"

"No link Brotha. Just talked with coaches and one of our biggest "Friends of the program". It will be out very soon. Like I said, Auburn should not sweat this, they are having a fantastic recruiting year and have talented Qb's."

Just posts like that. Then all of a sudden he is ready to announce?

I pray they are wrong.

thinks it's a done deal. Essentially "why would he pick little old MSU over AU?" It's funny to hear them in one year go from gloom and doom with the Chizik hire to he's one of the top coaches (and staffs) in the country who will get whomever he wants. Very Bama' esque. They have totally downplayed Mullen's relationship of 3-4 years with Newton. That relationship may end up not being enough for him, but if I was in his shoes it would be plenty.

At this point I'd like MSU to get him just to see AU's reaction and to shut them up as much as for any benefit to MSU.

for us. Here we've been on this guy for months with a HC who has a long history relationship with the family plus we have a big need for some experience at QB and he's ringing a cowbell at the Egg Bowl and then at the last second not just another school, but a division rival swoops in and snatches him away from us. Then the AU fans will get to rub that in our face. Sure hope it doesn't happen. If we have to lose him would be much better to lose him to OU and not have to face him on the field against an SEC West foe.

Don't be too disappointed if y'all don't get Newton. He's the kind of guy that will likely cause dissension on a team. Over the course of the next 4 seasons MSU will probably be better off if your frosh QB gets significant playing time next season. Here's something that is rarely discussed because of racial overtones: One of AU's big recruiting advantages that MSU/Starkville, UA/Tuscaloosa, and the other SEC schools can't match is that AU's campus is an easy and short drive to Tuskegee Institute. Imagine what's waiting for most of the AU players when they get there. AU sells that the way MSU sold the short drive to the "W" back in the days when MSU had very few girls on campus.

in the end it is a personal decision these recruits make. I personally think we'll be OK with the guys we have coming back. MSU's success doesn't hinge on this one guy. That's not to say he wouldn't help out tremendously and I'd love to see him play for MSU.

it boils down to this- his relationship with Mullen versus slightly better facilities and supporting cast at Auburn.

Neither school runs a prostyle offense.
Both schools have the potential to get good coverage if he is as good as he says he is.
Both schools offer a chance at immediate playing time.
Both schools are less then half a days drive from family.
Both schools are fairly similar (ag school in a smaller town)

Auburn is probably a better fit for him anyway. They have Gus Malzahn, who I think is a great college coach. It's closer to his home of Atlanta. They have a worse QB situation than MSU (Relf & Russell).

I'm 57 yo. Except for the seven years that I was a student in Tuscaloosa I've lived in Birmingham my whole life. Around the state of Alabama astute observers of college football recruiting (that is about 80% of the adult population) know that AU has been using Tuskegee as a recruting tool since the early 70s. It's smart on their part to do so. It ain't racist to do it and it ain't racist to know it. Y'all need to come up with a plan to compete. At Bama, we hired the best coach in college football and he (along with our deep pockets) can out recruit any school in the south. Plus, what other SEC school can legitimately say that we "own" all 56 SEC game officials plus the SEC HQ staff.

on Dec 26 (if I am not mistaken). Cam is supposed to have a press conference at the school he chooses so if he did it next week that would leave us and OU (since no one would be in Auburn next week).

with another team and I'm not concerned about what may be better for Newton, I'm only concerned about what is better for our program. Newton makes us better, so i want him here and no where else.

Unfortunatley I'm getting that dejected feeling already.

If he does announce on the 25th - at some point, you reach the point where you cross the line. After reading your post and being reminded what Christmas should be about, Cam Newton has crossed the line. If he comes, so be it but I definitely won't lose sleep over him going to Auburn.

It's not like the guy hasn't had ample opportunity to commit somewhere. Seriously, do it the 24th or 26th.

_________________________________________________ Edit to say since it's the 31st - I LOVE YOU CAM NEWTON!!

Semantics and may sound like I'm holding out hope, but there is a difference. Regardless, just do it already.

is the type guy you'll be getting if he comes. I see a locker room cancer, a crybaby, prima donna in love with his press clippings and himself. After hearing about how this guy is the messiah of junior college QB's, I frankly don't give two ***** where he goes now. I just want him to go away. I honestly feel like we'll be better off without him. Mullen almost won 6-7 games with freaking Tyson Lee as our QB. We don't need the Second Coming under center.
