Doubt anyone knows anything outside the Shep household. Not sure they even know currently.
Pretty sure by "gathering information" they are going to get feed back from teams as to where he may really go. Mock drafts don't tell you much beyond the sure fire top guys.

Just because Reeds projected top 10 in some mocks doesn't mean a team in the top 10 is likely to pick him.

I imagine that is what they are doing anyway.

I don’t understand this. How do we know that next year’s draft will be better?

I keep hearing that the recruiting class of ‘24 is one of the weakest ever, so where is this influx of talent coming from? Is it international players?

Not saying you are wrong, I am genuinely ignorant on how that works.
Next years group has a for number 1 guy unlike this years group after that I could be wrong but I think I saw where there are some good international guys

Don’t understand why Reed wasn’t at the party yesterday. His dad’s good friend. Shouldn’t have had anything to do with whether he’s coming back or not. Just figured he’d be there, just because. Nothing to do with himself. Just because of UK basketball. Hope he decides to return. Think it would benefit himself in the long run and UK in the short run.

He wouldn’t have enjoyed it. Mobbed. People chanting “one more year”. Pictures. Media. Autographs. Pressured.
Nice of him to give CMP the moments.

who would advise him to stay from a career standpoint? if there is guaranteed money you go.

I mean 15 years from now he'll talk about what might have been

while he is sitting in his 1.8m home with 6 luxury cars in the garage.

I don’t get people stating Reed should come back and then mentions his size . Do you think him coming back is going to make him grow?

If anything it’s more reason to leave while his stock is high .

So how much we need to NIL him to compete with the NBA salary of a top 8 draft pick?

If he was my son, I would tell him that I think it would be best for him to return to Kentucky. The NBA will still be there. Go back to Kentucky, lead the team, have fun with your teammates and try to win a title. Make yourself one of the Kentucky legends that people will talk about for years.

I get the everyone seems to be all about the money, but if it was my son, that would be my advice to him.

Anyone that ever thought he was coming back was just plain delusional and it’s obvious the announcement has been held back because of everything else going on.

I expect him to declare this weekend

He could get that easy here lol.
He could, but one year isn't a guaranteed four (2+2) years. One year of $8 mil doesn't make financial sense when contracts outside the lottery or even the first round are far less lucrative and must be more heavily negotiated.

If he drops out of the lottery next year or into the second round, that does somewhat harm his long-term prospects.

I think the case for Reed staying is the same case for Dan Hurley not taking the Kentucky job and massive contract. You turn down a larger payday for the chance to become a legend in your community. We'll see what he decides and I will totally understand him going pro (just like I would have understood Hurley taking the UK job after winning back to back ships at UConn). But I don't think returning is illogical, like some make it out to be.

I don't buy his draft projection at all. Awesome skillset but seems a little undersized right now for the NBA. Another year of strength conditioning at the college level would do wonders, and I believe he could be NPOTY if he came back. On top of that he could command millions in NIL in Kentucky if he wanted to do that.
Will he come back? Doubtful, but understand the guy who has been pushing players out year after year after year only to make room for this new batch of "were young" excuse, is not here anymore. I have hope that Pope will not push any player out who wants to come back and play for the name on the front of the jersey another year.
I get the whole “another year” thing, but honestly it would be better if he went. He can sign a lottery contract and he gets to work on his game 24/7 with much more experienced strength and condition coaches.

I think the hold up is he always wanted to play for Kentucky and he is cutting that dream a little short. I’m sure it’s a tough decision. Jeff didn’t look overly confident that he was returning when Pope made that comment.

I get it trust me. But end the end when your talking millions it ultimately doesn't matter. He is going to live a good life no matter what choice he makes, he will not be hurting for money. Money doesn't buy happiness, we all know that but that's all anyone cares about these days.

Money doesn't buy happiness, but there's got to be a certain draw to being financially set for life. Not only that, but being so set that your kids have grandkids are set. Generational wealth. It's a concept us plebs can't even comprehend.

Im thinking a well rounded team, with role players, will do wonders for UK basketball.

Wish we could improve with our current roster, but we got a new coach so...

Seeing players transfer and decommit....makes you wonder about the mindset of today's elite players.

Even if Reed had just as good of a season next year, he’d still get drafted lower.

He could be drafted anywhere in the top 10 this year and it would surprise nobody.

He’s gone.

Just depends on what his dreams were and are. Was it to wear UK blue and be on a championship team and an UK All American with his jersey retired in Rupp or the NBA and all that goes with that life.

If he came back and averaged 20+ points, lead sec in steals. SEC player of the year, make a run to final 4, would his stock go up, down or stay the same? I know it can’t get much better but you can’t put a price on memories anyway

Skillset? He shoots the 3 well. Bad defense. Okay passing. Ball watches. He desperately needs a year under Pope to learn how to play real defense, and be in an offense where he'll get lots of different looks.
Reed does need to work on his defense but some of the ball watching is intentional and not due to the fact he cant guard. He likes playing free safety and looking for the steal and he's so good at that its created some bad habits of always lurking to anticipate steals instead of just gaurding his man. He has to learn how to pick and choose his spots instead of almost alwasys looking for the pick.

I never stated his ball watching had anything to do with his defense. He ball watches on offense. Early on in the season he got away with it because Cal had not implemented his patented plow horse big man offense. Everyone was moving, so was less of a focus. And, no he can't guard. He really needs another season in college.

I think that RS should return. Getting drafted is one thing....handling the grind of the NBA year over year is another, and he looks painfully diminutive in size.

I think he needs a year (or two) of additional college ball (covered by a gucci level NIL deal) to showcase his shooting, improve some other aspects of his game (maybe ball handling, d-footwork), and most importantly to pack on about 20 lbs+ of muscle. He is listed as 6.3//186 lbs, is due to fill out, and should be allowed to do so....in college. I'd like to see him carry at least 205 or more into the league.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Yea. I saw him as high as 3rd. I just don't see it though. I fear he'll go and not get picked until the 20's. It's a shooters league but you still need to be physically ready.

While I would love Reed back as much as anyone, I doubt he (nor basically anyone) could replication shooting 53% from 3. And if he needs to improve his defensive skills, better for HIM to do it in the NBA where he can dedicate his life to getting better (no college limitations) while also making millions.

Again, I’d love to have him back, but if he’s looking out for what is best for him, it’s taking the high draft pick and not risking injury or regressing in college next year.
