My brother told me he was running through campus yesterday and passed by the site of the new parking garage/classroom building behind the post office. Apparently, they have dug out a huge hole for the underground garage and it has turned into a lake with all the rain. If someone passes it, take a picture!

True story, back in Spring '82 I lived in Suttle. Back then there was a big power substation for the campus sitting down in that gully and occasionally the gully would fill up w/ water for a day or 2 then drain and evaporate out. Late one afternoon after an all afternoon drinking session, the hole was full so my suitemates and I went over there w/ fishing rods and lawn chairs from the balcony just to see the reaction we would get. We had lots of people stopping and asking if we were catching anything and we told the typical fishing story lies. For the next day or two that mud hole had tons of people over there fishing in it. We laughed our asses off at the gullibility of people....

I was there the past two days and yes - it is a huge hole and I was wondering what this was going to be......as for now, it's a big *** hole.

my dad said that was a seriously legit hill when it snowed heavily in the late 50's. it didnt snow hard enough when i attended to confirm, but i bet one could build up some speed (prior to the huge hole).

I lived in Suttle in the spring of'82 and I was more worried about climbing the damn steps because the elevators weren't working half the time. Never saw anybody fishing. Remember the big snow in January of, 82. Lots of people sliding down hernia hill.

Your dad is correct, or at least it was the same way in the late 60s. We had a decent (maybe 4") snow on the morning of exams in one of those years. In those days, fall exams were in January. It was quite difficult to get up the hill that morning.

Snow stuck around that whole week. Room looked out on hernia hill. Saw an ambulance picking someone up at least once every day that week.

Snowed about 5 inches my senior year in 2011 and there was a **** ton of students on mattresses, boxes, treys, sleds...you name it, someone was on it. It was behind the post office right in that area that formed a bowl. People were sliding down from all angles into the bowl. I didn't see anyone get hurt, but it was pretty dangerous. People were hauling *** down the hills. It was fun as hell though.

You're right. School was out the whole week. I was blindsided by somebody coming down hernia hill. Had an ice storm before the snow came, That's why it lasted so long.

Of course how would I know all those details since I'm really an ole miss fan. 57 keeps telling me that.

Suttle didn't have ghost, but it was haunted by crappy and cheap design. And constant non working elevators.

Yes, right before Christmas vacation 1980, a student from natchez jumped from the top floor.

Don't lknow if it was haunted but had several jumpers while I was there......

Thread hijack!

Was Suttle haunted? Heard some dude killed himself in there one Christmas.

Tallest building on campus with balconies seemed to make suttle the gp-to spot for that sort of thing.

My suitemates and I went to the cafeteria one night in '82 and when we left there was a guy standing outside our 6th floor suite that we didn't recognize. When we got back ambulances, cops everywhere. He had jumped sometime after we left and was seen by someone from below. He lived up higher than we did but came down to 6th, didn't make sense. The story going around was that he was a military brat and his dad was a real hard *** and was giving him hell about grades and he couldn't take it anymore and parachuted w/out the chute. His head was embedded in a drainage grate in one of the flower beds. Never heard or saw anything about ghosts that semester although thinking back it was pretty creepy down in the basement when they had dryers down there.

We had a good snow/ice storm Spring '82. People from all over the campus came to slide on cafeteria trays, cardboard, old road signs, etc. A bunch of the football players came over and were sliding down on an old naugahyde couch they had taken the legs off of. There were several trips to the hospital that week, you couldn't stop and people were sliding down the hill, across the sidewalk into the street and crashing into cars parked in front of Suttle along the curb.

I lived in Suttle Hall in Fall of 2007, my first semester at State. It was supposed to be shut down for demolition, but they had an overflow of students and needed extra housing for everyone. I was one of about 30 people who got picked to stay in Suttle for that semester. It wasn't so bad to me.... Heck I stayed in Evans, Hull, and Ruby Hall after that and they were all about the same to me. The only thing I didn't like about Suttle was having to climb that big hill every day to go to class and work. Meh, probably helped keep me in shape anyway.

The ice storm of 2011 was great. Me and my buddies indeed sled that hill many of times. Thank goodness I had a truck. We watched one little 350z spin out multiple times trying to get up hills.

I lived there in 2006 and we had more fun there and McKee than we ever did in ruby (lived in all 3).
