As was just witnessed, a lot of other big schools are not lining up to get into the SEC...whether that is due to proximity, or other attachments.
Yes, there are other schools that want "In"... but for some reason, the SEC has not offered, most of which will be located near the East coast.
Plenty of other schools want "In", but are you going to dump existing founders, to get to Memphis, or Southern...certainly not Tulane. They just don't have the SEC type fan base.
Now, what happened over the last week, was a result of timing...what was going on in the Other BCS conferences, and we were taking steps to protect our position, when the timing said to do so. It worked! The SEC will likely stay as is for a while....but who knows. (Maybe a short while).
When you look at the natural Football Borders...things will stay cool, likely until the State of Texas is given back to Mexico. (which might happen)
