State fans dressed a stuffed gorilla in a Shaq jersey and paraded it up and down the student section. Doubt something like that would fly these days.

a fishing pole as well. Not racist I guess, but at the time, I thought funny as heck. One of my funnier memoriesof such at a gamewas when Shane Mathews and the gaytors went down in Starkvegas on a Thursday night. As I'm leaving the student section, I see a guy with a blow up gator. He has the gatorup onthe wall at the bottom of the stands acting as if he was humping it, in front of a TV camera. Parents had to be proud.</p>

"Racist" isn't the first thing that comes to mind when I hear someone has thrown a banana. Sorry, but I don't. I guess I'm above it.
Personally, I believe that's the approach we all should have about it too. People do stuff to they think would be funny. If everyone just acted like they had no idea what he was doing, it wouldn't be done again. It's like a joke that wasn't funny or went over everyone's head.

But most people (and I'm definitely not going out on a limb here) see it as incredibly racist. I can't believe I'm spelling this out: throwing bananas at a hockey game (a predominantly white sport, goes without saying) when a black player takes the ice, is a racist move. Like the other guy said, a person has to be either naive or really effing stupid not to make the connection. What the hell else could it mean? Or is it a just a Larry David-esque coincidence where some poor sap gets hit from behind and the banana he was eating happens to land out on the ice as the only black player comes out?

You guys may need to go watch Remember the Titans again. After one of the games Denzel tosses the other coach a banana because earlier in the week the opposing coach said he wouldn't share any film with that monkey (Denzel). Its just a racist act and always has been.

Not really but I had to read the thread to figure out why its racist. But your right, thats pretty damn racist. Id even call it an effort to a"peel" to the racist community.

Perhaps they just wanted their team's opponent to "slip on the banana peel" while skating on the slippery ice... just saying...

Don't be stupid. If some of you can't see why throwing a banana at a black man in a taunting manner is offensive and racist then I don't know what to say.
