Not saying it was a good call, but the stick is pretty clearly leaning to the left there, so that shot is before they straightened it up for the official to rule. The Ballard no TD/no review on the other hand was absolutely horrendous.

And the ball is leaning forward to where the red is picking it up. It was short when it was stretched. Trust me. I rewound it 5 times to check.

When you pull a chain, it doesn't get shorter. The original line of scrimmage chain is set first. The first down end is then stretched. It was obviously short, but close enough for that officiating crew.

I f the chain is pulled tight, it doesn't matter if the stick is slightly leaning. It was still short.

Ummmm, no it's not. That is my pic I took last week when Utah St got screwed against Auburn. I just posted it again on 247 showing how Auburn got calls 2 weeks in a row at big moments in the game.</p>

But the TV camera is not looking straight down the line at the mark. The camera is actually in front of the spot, towards the endzone, looking back. The gap you are seeing might be the lateral gap between the nose of the ball and the stick, and it just comes across looking short on TV.

Or, the refs blatantly screwed MSU on national television.

**edit** The Alabama game just used the overhead camera on a measurement. That was pretty cool.

I understand what you are saying but it they clearly say that the ball was "touching the stake." How come I can see daylight?

And its pretty damn straight down the line...besides if the camera angle was ahead of the marker it would give the illusion that it was actually closer and there was still daylight...

And, no, being ahead of the line exaggerates the gap between the ball and stake. You can prove it to yourself just using your hands as the objects.
