I’ve been thinking about this for sometime over the last months and wondered how a private school with less students in the Big 12 do as well as they have in athletics over the last decade or so. Yeah I know the Art Briles stuff and the men’s basketball as well.

But I’m seeing the have the number one men’s basketball team, number two women’s basketball team this week. They just finished a top 10 football season and they’ve had decent baseball in the past and other sports as well. Their women have one a few Championships with Kramer Robertson’s mom and not sure what other sports they may have Natty’s in at all.

I know they are in Texas which is fertile recruiting ground but they have heavy hitters around them. Maybe there are still so many athletes to choose from they get good leftover recruits! Remember they also have a pretty high academic standard as well.

I may be completely off base on this with similarities between us and Baylor but when it comes to exposure, recruiting base and salaries and facilities and such I think there is some. But kudos to them and their athletic department.

They found excellent coaches, a few of the best in each sport. I don’t know if it’s lucky, but it’s definitely rare.

They have stupid money

I was there in ‘07 for baseball and they had just finished fundraising campaign and exceeded their goal of 500 million. In 2018 they started a campaign aiming to raise 1.1 billion by 2023. The have raised over 500 million as part of that effort.

They ain't in the SEC west. They hire administration that put their heads in the sand (or worse) when it comes to the conduct of their athletes. They don't have to abide by the rules of a public institution. Basically SMU before the fall.
