Can we officially put the Ellis Johnson myth to bed?

Last year we were 21st in the country in total D, yielding 331.7 yards per game. We had the #7 pass defense and the #58 run defense.

This year we are 19th in total D, yielding 295.8 yards per game. We have the #2 pass defense and the #67 run defense.

The big difference in the two is obviously the pick sixes that we had last year, particulary Pegues v Auburn and AJ v Alabama.

Granted, we have three games left this year so our stats could get worse, or they could get better.

All in all, I see no reason why we should continue to elevate Ellis Johnson to sainthood. He's no Mark Hudspeth or Stan Jones.

in the conference, but the point remains the same. I think that brings us to 4 of the top 6, which is exactly what we played against last year. The Ga Tech game is really the only black mark on this defense to date. And to use the Mike Brown excuse, this D is without Jamar Chaney, Jamon Hughes, Anthony Johnson, and Quentin Wesley.

We've done this versus weak competition.

//funny how he thought Vandy's overrated rush offense was all that, but now is going to tell us our defensive rankings shouldn't be counted yet</p>

The pass D has been adequate but they've been untested. On the other hand it's not like our opponents have had to pass at all. If they can put 14 points on the board a win is pretty much in the bag. JPW won't have to throw much this weekend either so theo stats will not take a hit. I look for the pass D to get torched by Dick and Snead.

a feeling Cheese's defense may get shredded, I'm real interested in how South Carolina's defense handles Florida this weekend.

and is doing a great job there despite what might happen against UF. There may not have been a big drop-off to this year, but that doesn't necessarily mean EJ sucks. As others have said, your d stats are going to get worse but will still be respectable by the end of the year. Plus the EJ defense went up against vastly better AU and UT offenses last year.

SELA **** ****

Look at that. Holy ****. Our defense has probably faced the largest group of offensive ineptitude in the country. They better be 17n 19th in total D, hell they should be top 10 in D against these clowns. They're #58 in run D?? Against these 17 ups? How about we put to bed the myth that Cheese has done a great job this year? He has done ok but honestly if you can't pull out a top 25 D against that **** you need to be fired.
