Can we/should we/will we have 8 home games a season soon?

Other SEC teams have had all four of their OOC games at home in a season, resulting in 8 home games. After our expansion, we will be making more money than ever from our home games, and it will make even more fiscal sense to have an additional home game. However, that will be more expensive for our fans, costing them a lot more for an extra trip to Starkville and higher priced season tickets.

Are we ready for that yet? If that 8th home game is another relatively crappy team (not requiring a home and home), will we still fill the stadium? Will we actually sell fewer season tickets because they would be more expensive?

You mean no more trips to South Alabama or La. Tech?**

i think we are ready. If someone is going to shell out the price of season tickets and BDC membership then another $30-$50/ticket (depending on opponent) is not going to matter. I think it is to our distinct advantage to have as many home games as possible. This home and home stuff with teams like Troy and South Alabama need to end. There are enough teams that are more than willing to play at Starkville only.

I certainly hope not. That would just be the beginning of the end of Davis-Wade. They should have learned their lesson in the 60s and 70s.

I suppose I could save myself a lot of money if they decide to head in that direction though ....

So it's the beginning of the end if we choose to move a 100% for sure AWAY game to Jackson? Explain yourself.

Rouge and Fishwater were speaking of HOME games ... the 8th home game

And yes, I believe that would be the beginning of the end. Move one game, and then somebody'll want two ... and so on. Most people around now don't remember the fiasco of having virtually all our home games in Jackson, but it was no fun. I was there as a student. I know the initial post by Rouge was sarcastic, but I'm not sure the follow up was.

If we (MSU) can convince a Louisiana directional school, Troy, or even USM to have one of THEIR home games in Jackson, I really wouldn't care. I'm not sure MSU could pull it off though unless they got a big payout because it would turn into a home game for MSU by default.

Somebody in this entire thread mentioned games with LSU and/or Alabama there. Hell would freeze over before they'd move one of their home games to Jackson, so whoever said it had to have meant one of our home games.

How many times does it have to be said. The proposal is to NOT take away a home game but bring an away game to Jackson.

Read the thread. This is a different case. Rouge and Fishwater were speaking, perhaps sarcastically but speaking nevertheless, of moving the 8th HOME game to Jackson. I just posted the same thing to DS.

An eighth home game will never happen. Our athletic department doesn't have the money to pay a team yearly to make an eight home game. Easiest proposal is to do the Jackson plan.

But that's irrelevant to our discussion; it prompted you and DS to call me out on what you took as an AWAY, assuming I was beating that dead horse again, while in fact it was about a HOME game moving to Jackson, the 8th home game. But I agree with you ... there won't be 8 home games so the proposal is moot.

To me

Having an alumni road trip game to Tulane or Memphis is about like having a home game- or certainly no worse than a neutral site game. Same with a buy game in Jackson. You add one of those in with the seven in Starkville, and that basically gives us eight home games.

At any rate, I wouldn't be surprised at all if there is a season where things work out where we have eight home games. It might be an anamoly, but I don't thinks out of the realm of possibility.
