WVU's Skyler Howard is on pace to finish the regular season 232-336 for 3664 yards & 36 TDs. Can it continue? The competition will obviously be far more difficult but his minutes may go up and the need to pass the ball may increase as well.
Speaking only for myself, I'm less concerned about his sheer numbers than how he does when put in a position.....against a good opponent (like say, who he'll face this coming weekend)......where we'll probably need him to win a game for us. Of course, the fact this is both his.....and the team's.....first road test of the year makes it that much more challenging.
Anyway, I think my own response to your question is probably not.
My prediction would be barring injury, over 3200 passing and 400 rushing. It's not hard to envision 2-3-4 tds a game in the air with the WR weapons emerging. At least 30 tds is probable.
I think an equally exciting question is.. with 4 picks thru 3 games, how many can Joseph end up with in the pass heavy B12 games ahead? Beasley had 10 in 1994.
If Skyler can get just a little bit better on those slants and crossing patterns his numbers will be very good. Too often he throws the ball just a bit behind the receiver on those routes. That's how the interception happened this past Saturday. And against better defenses (OU, OSU, maybe TCU, Texas could wake up) that can be a real problem. I'm pretty sure this is the timing thing that Dana was referencing at the beginning of the season.
My take? He'll get better and his good to great games will far out-shadow any sub-par performances. If he stays healthy he'll should eclipse 3K yards passing.
