Texas will soon reclaim the BIG12. MARK IT DOWN... Many time throughout history, the major justification a team is good is not all on talent, but the level of creativity within the schemes. Thats how Rich Rod done well at WVU. However, when you combine high levels of creativity & high-end talent, its almost impossible to overcome. The main issue I have with our offense the past two years, other then using mostly Fresh & Soph(which I overlook), has been the very low/average levels of creativity within the schemes/plays/formations/etc. They are modern basic concepts...nothing special or unique about our concepts.. I understand some variations of creativity require certain levels of talent & experience, of which we have not had the past two years, however as this roster ages, this will be something im eager to analyze in the coming years. WVU will only be able to compete at high levels, with high levels of creativity, player evaluation, & player development. We will not be able to match OU or UT talent levels, so we have to be "smarter", we have to out-fox them... Sark is a great OC, one thing is certain, Hudson Card as UT's QB will provide the skillset he needs to deploy unlimited schemes & concepts.. Limitations = predictability, and predictability = LOSS... Maybe Brown & staff have choose to keep things simple, for various reasons the first couple of years, but once the average talent level improves & gains more experience, Im really hoping to see elite levels of creativity within our schemes & play designs. We have saw many OC's not work out as HC, however Sark has HC experience, and in a talent rich and $ rich program, UT should rise quickly. Herman at least gave him a decent foundation to work with, far better then Herman had to start.. When you step back and look at the skillsets needed to deploy a full arsenal of creativity, Dual-threat QB is a must( at least one who can shake a little, like Geno Smith as an example, GS wasnt known for his feet, but he could move when needed)... #2 would be Speed - Speed beats schemes and can be a critical piece needed for creative concepts. 3. Diversity - not SJW type of diversity, but skillset diversity... Which mainly breaks down to Height/Length & Speed.. Its great to see us get two TE's in the 2021 class. One built more for run blocking, one more for catching & routes. Personally, I think if Victor Wikstrom would have played here in the U.S. he would have been a high 4 star TE, he'll be a freaking beast for us in a couple years.. That said, next season's success boils down to just a few things: 1. Garrett Greene 2. Garrett Greene 3. Garrett Greene I have faith in the Def staff to develop our DL, LB's, & DB's... Im "hopeful" our OL takes another step forward. Im "hopeful" our WR's are able to catch the ball next year. If GG is the QB we ALL hope he will be, it should open up the playbook. He'll still just be a Freshmen next year, but if he can manage to take few steps forward this offseason, id much rather he start early then to wait till later in his career. We may pay a small "development" price for that, but having an extra year will only improve his upside for his Junior & Senior seasons. I also think Brown identifies how predictable our offense has been, which is why hes recruiting a certain type of QB. I dont think a pure pocket passer is the direction Brown wants to pursue, and at the college level, having a QB thats also a run threat dramatically increases the # & types of schemes that can be deployed, per formation basis. Creativity, like "talent", is what separates good from great, in any career or business, its the one factor that attributes to success more then experience or talent alone. Its the one common factor shared by those who forge new paths of industry.
