Saw the replay this am and heard Herbstreit struggling to keep his composure near end of game while shot of cannon crew waiting in vain became planted on the screen. Disgusting really at his mockery. But an idea popped. Why don't we get a younger rep, maybe a real vet like the one saluted in end zone ritual, added to The Old Guard. If I were a Red Coat invader, I wouldn't be too intimidated. An addition of a current soldier/sailor or even older dogs in fatigues or class A's to add substance would preclude any further humiliation. Of course three TD's a game would help.

Army fires its cannon across the Lusk Reservoir. All you see is smoke coming out of the woods lol.

Cannon guys are from revolutionary war re enactors group - sure they would like to have more members, who might someday replace current guys - just got to spend some big bucks on historical gear.

There are plenty of young revolutionary war reenactors out there...
Lots of these too:

With the score at that point Rutgers deserved a little bit of mockery.

He was laughing at the OSU fans chanting "shoot the cannon". Wasn't a big deal.
The mockery was when he mimicked the guy's voice with a real heavy jersey slang/accent and said that's how they talk around here... The rest was just fine.

The Ohio State Cheerleaders Facebook page put up a pretty hysterical video of the cannon going off for the Rutgers TD. When the cannon goes off all 7 cheerleaders and the Buckeye fall to the ground at the same time as if they were shot.

Saw this at the game, thought it was in poor taste to mock our traditions, but like Lee Marvin, I was drunk and violent at the time.

I can't figure out how to post the video, but if you are on Facebook look for "the ohio state university cheerleaders" page. it's a cannon. it's supposed to mean we fired on them and hopefully killed them. they acted it out. totally hysterical in the clip.

They showed it on tv. I thought it was funny.

I saw that when rewatching the game on DVR. And I agree; it was hysterical.

For those folks getting offended, I highly doubt it was done w/disrespect in mind. It seemed like good-natured, fun-loving stuff similar to a lot of the back and forth that took place between W. Virginia and RU fans here on the board during hillbilly-guido week.

IMO, we should not get mad, we should get even in some funny way.

I thought the OSU fans were more interested in the canon then mocking anyone. They were loud. It was pretty funny. Most of the RU fans had left by that point. Just be happy OSU fans wore red so it didn't look as bad as it could have on TV.

The cannon is literally right next to the away cheerleaders.

And I don't think the OSU fans were even ribbing us. I don't think they even knew what the cannon was for. As in they just saw a cannon and didn't know that it was supposed to be fired after we score. They were as bored by the game as everyone else and turned their attention to something else.

There is nothing wrong with the cannon crew. They are devoted and excellent representation as is. Why would we have guys in fatigues? They represent our Colonial/Revolutionary roots not some kind of overall military history.

I went back and watched parts of the the game again including Rettig's time. If we weren't getting blown out they wouldn't have been spending so much time talking about the cannon crew. They were filling dead air and Herbstreit was being an a#$ like he can be and I really hated him doing his "Jersey" accent.
