Nissan production facility in Canton Mississippi has a paint one building and a paint two building. A month or so ago people on here were discussing Nissan closing the plant due to their recent struggles. Which they are definitely scuffling as a business. But recently they have announced plans to increase production in Tennessee and Canton.

Are you referring to just one of the two paint lines increasing production? Because that’s not the same thing as the number of vehicles lining off actually increasing.

Could be that just one particular model has a demand increase while other models are decreasing to offset, and that creates an imbalance / bottleneck in one of the subassembly lines that can only be recovered by OT / weekend work.

This local news comes on the same day that Nissan announces another 10,000 plus in job cuts.
Internationally. Do you know how many facilities Nissan has ? How many countries they build vehicles in ?? Fine by me if they shut a plant in Japan or Mexico or anywhere but here. I love that they are increasing production in the states and cutting in other countries. Wonder what prompts that move ??

10 years ago I worked in the Canton paint plant #2. It’s where they paint the Altimas.

Paint plant #1 is where they paint the trucks like Frontier, Armada, Titans plus Murano.

Essentially there are two assembly lines - Altima and Truck. These lines run separately within the main building. However, each line has it’s own paint plant. The Altima line (Paint #2) is in a separate building from the main building.

Now it's just Frontier and Altima. The Titan went away. LCV is shut down now for about 3 years. The number of vehicles coming out of this plant has dropped drastically in the last ten years. Oh and Toyota makes the Corolla in BS

One advantage Canton has is Stamping Dept. It is located at the very north end of the plant and makes parts for Canton, Smyrna, and (at one time) the plant near St. Petersburg, Russia. This is the only dept. that runs 3 shifts a day at Canton. They have 3 large capacity automatic transfer presses, each press is roughly the size of a basketball court with 3.5 stories above ground and 2 below so moving these isn't an easy process. This is the major advantage Canton has.

If their international business is tanking how long before it takes down the US unit with it? It's all the same company.

Only time will tell. They are definitely a company circling the drain. US sales are higher than anywhere else and they cant afford to tack that tariff cost onto the price of the cars so hopefully they will continue expanding US production. I dont work in Mexico so I truly dont care what happens there. Smyrna is doing well. Hopefully they will be bringing more vehicles to Canton.

Lots of car parts come in from Mexico.
