I have no idea what normal will bring to gately on Saturday? Will it be a Catholic League officiating crew or a down state crew?
If this game is close, I expect some nefarious calls to go in the direction of normal. Anyways, should be decent weather. Hope to make it out.
We on the northside have plenty of time on our hands in November, so we don't have to worry about officiating.Good one. I forgot how witty you Naperville folk are.
Kind of an unknown. I see they have blown everyone out this year. They beat Maine S by 3 TD's in '15 so MC has work cut out for them.Anyone have a scouting report on Normal?

2015Hope this was a joke. They did not play Maine S this year. From what I gather offense is pretty good. Defense is ok. I have to consider their weak schedule and MC in the CCL blue as a factor and pick MC in this one. I could be wrong. But I think it will be close with MC coming out on top.
That was an all sophomore team.
Looking forward to this matchup! I’ll be there tailgating in the north end zone (enter parking lot from 103rd veer left to park access rd) if you want to stop by. As usual, there’s whiskey, cigars and hot dogs (compliments of Maxwells).MC vs. Normal roll call!! Who is going? Hoping to possibly see coach Crank in person! AMBofQUAN? Dean? It's not about talent!
Hi fratty - good to see you AGAINI just can not shake the feeling that while the rest of the world is playing checkers, Coach Lenti is playing chess.
Mount Carmel 42 Normal 7
Benet played Normal Community last year in Normal in the second round of the p/o, think Normal was 8-1 or 9-0 in regular season last year. They played on a grass field and ran mostly spread and some pro sets. It was competitive for most the most until about halfway through Q2, then Normal seemed to get frustrated with the offense getting stopped consistently. Best of my memory, 2nd half was active for about the first 4-5 minutes, then they just kind of stalled out. Strongest memory I have of the game was the majority of the 2nd half, they were just frustrated at not moving the ball and didn't know what to do.
The fans and players were all class acts. Benet won 38-14, when walking off the field as everything was folding up, the parents of the Normal had formed two lines at the exit to wait for their sons, as the Benet players walked out the parents lined up kept telling each of them "good luck next week" and "nice game" including some handshakes.
Pretty much a certainty they have never seen a offense similar to MC's. When you very rarely see/play against that kind of offense, it is really difficult to adjust to it. That will probably cause some of the same issues.
MC by 14.
Benet handled them pretty easy down there last year. Normal looks to be better this year, but would expect MC to be pretty safe at home.
Benet defense was outstanding last year. ESL scored a tough 20 points against them. I can see how any team got frustrated with Benet defense. That being said, how good is MC defense this year?
Benet's offense (for the most part was spread) last year was at best average. They moved the ball all over the field on Normal. That MC offense is going to be a real change for them. Maybe they stay in it, but, think MC holds the ball a long time, grinds it out and wins by a couple of TDs but heck that is why we play the games.
Again you are talking last year and the issue for MC is defense correct? MC lost to De La Salle so I'm not sure where the world beater mentality is coming from. In the end they may very well beat Normal but I don't see where it's a cake walk. If Normal is not scared of the history of MC, the game will be interesting.
This is from memory so I know I may be wrong...these were November L's at Gately that I recall since I started following them in the mid 80'sAlthough it may not directly bear on this game, wouldn't we be curious to learn of MC's winning playoff percentage at Gately during the month of November during the last 3 decades? Maybe north of 75%?

I cleared that year from my memory after Rashaad Mendenhall manhandled us in the first round of the playoffs*also 2003 CCL Prep Bowl playoffs to Loyola.
I would venture to guess it is probably pretty close to that on the road as well.Although it may not directly bear on this game, wouldn't we be curious to learn of MC's winning playoff percentage at Gately during the month of November during the last 3 decades? Maybe north of 75%?
November 1992....at JCA....L 13-11....Therill Smith had to go ahead and run his mouth....still burns!I would venture to guess it is probably pretty close to that on the road as well.
Ha...great game. I was actually on the sidelines for that one as a young Hilltopper asst coach.November 1992....at JCA....L 13-11....Therill Smith had to go ahead and run his mouth....still burns!
Dummy's quote got you guys pumped but even without it, those field conditions that day never works for the veer. A power running game like you had with Larsen was the winning ticket.Ha...great game. I was actually on the sidelines for that one as a young Hilltopper asst coach.

Purely out of curiosity, what do they do that should be illegal?MC loves that should-be-illegal cut block
