First and foremost, make sure him and LaRussa don't spend time together after the games.

Second, he should be a pretty solid defensive upgrade over the Theriot/Descalso platoon. His bat appears to be on an upward trend as well, although hitting below .200... it's kind of hard not be in an upward trend. Hopefully it'll be a great fit.

I think he belongs in AAA. Furcal is a defesive upgrade- but will he be an offensive upgrade? As you said, he is hitting .197.

I also want to see what the Cardinals give up to get him- hopefully very little.

Honestly, I would rather them go out and get Heath Bell, but it looks like that isn't going to happen. I always thought that Colby Rasmus for Heath Bell would have been interesting.

Going back to Al Hrabosky in the 1970's. The closest that I can come up with is Todd Worrell in 1985- and they got him from their farm system.

Al Hrabosky
Mark Littell
Bruce Sutter
Jeff Lahti/Todd Worrell at the end of the year
Lee Smith
Mike Perez/Rene Arocha
Tom Henke
Dennis Eckersley
Jeff Brantley-
Juan Acevedo
Ricky Bottalico
Dave Veres
Jason Isringhausen
Adam Wainwright for the 2006 postseason
Ryan Franklin
Fernando Salas

But he is also a rookie and therefore inexperienced. Bell is a more proven quantity. That makes me nervous if the Cardinals go to the postseason

I'm also thinking about how strong the Cardinals bullpen would be with both Salas and Bell. Not to mention Motte, Dotel, The guy with a lot of consonants that I can't spell, McClellan, Boggs and Lynn.

I also think that the Cardinals will call up Shelby Miller in Sept. That's another power arm that could help the bullpen in the postseason possibly.
