Carter, Konate Earn All-Big 12 Recognition MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 4, 2018) – West Virginia senior guard Jevon Carter and sophomore forward Sagaba Konate headline WVU’s awards for the 2018 Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Men’s Basketball teams. Carter was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight season and is just the third player from a major conference (first Big 12 player) to be named to the All-Defensive Team all four years of his career. He was a unanimous choice for the All-Big 12 First Team and the Big 12 All-Defensive Team. Carter is the second WVU player to earn All-Big 12 First Team honors, joining Juwan Staten who did so in 2014 and 2015. The other major conference players who earned All-Defensive Team honors four years in a row were Purdue’s Chris Kramer (2007-10) and Ohio State’s Aaron Craft (2011-14). The only other Big 12 players to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors twice were Oklahoma State’s Marcus Dove (2007 and 2008) and Kansas’ Jeff Withey (2012 and 2013). In just his second season as a Mountaineer, Konate earned All-Big 12 Third Team honors and was named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team. The Mountaineers will begin play in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET against Baylor at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The game will be televised by ESPN2.
