Sure we were burned a couple of times last year, but by and large a kid will ultimately follow through with his commitment.

Somewhere around the 2nd week in August. Or adopt the more radical approach that Irondawg and I favor. Eliminate signing day altogether. If a school wants to offer and a player wants to sign, let them do it. Then you'd never have to worry about whether commitments were soft or solid. There'd only be two classes of recruits. Signed and unsigned. I guess unsigned would could be broken down into leaning and open.</p>

After last year, I don't believe these guys. It's great we have them committed and I hope it sticks. I guess I would rather have them committed then not. We will see.

...they couldn't step on campus without having papers shoved in front of their face. The system now isn't perfect, but having it completely open like that would be a disaster.

There will always be a defined day. Even if it's "anytime during your senior season", then it's the first day of class your senior year. The NCAA will set a rule which in effect would set the "signing day". It's not as though the current period is one day, it's that everyone usually signs by that day to make the splash. If you change it, the first available day to sign will be "signing day".

The NCAA first and foremost must protect the student athlete. For that reason alone, I'm against an early signing period.

we signed the second Saturday of December a letter of intent which meant you couldn't sign with any other SEC school. Then in Feb. you signed the national letter of intent, which finalized everything.

Yes we need a earlier signing date.

These kids are kids and deserve the complete their Senior season and have the opportunity to take official visits before signing day. Like you said, if you open an "early" date, that will be the new signing day. The pressure will just start earlier in the kid's high school career.

Some have argued that it would take pressure off the kids to sign early, but really the kids know how to shut things down if they want to. They aren't forced to talk to people. It is usually the kids themselves creating all the drama. It wouldn't have really helped us with the guys last year, the game would just have been different.

It may seem like it would be better for us as fans if it was earlier, but this shouldn't be about us.

If you don't want to sign early, don't sign early. But with the SEC forcing us to only sign 25, a rule that will likely spread, it causes real problems for teams if a player is not solid. By having an early signing period we would know where we stand coming down the stretch and we could decide if we want to take a chance on a guy who might flip-flop at the last minute. I think the way it is now there will be some guys sign with a team only to be told, "sorry, can't take you." An early signing period would likely reduce that issue.

...a new rule should be that players can sign a scholarship letter on the spot. In other words, you can sign the very day you commit.

From the day you sign, you then have a 30 day probation period.

During the 30 day probation period, you are allowed to break your contract.

But you are allowed to break your contract only once; if, for instance, you sign with MSU then decide within your 30 day probation period you want to sign with Bama, once you sign with Bama, you are stuck with Bama. You get only one chance to waffle.

That would cut out all this flop-flopping & dick tease ******** some of these players pull over the 8 month period between when they commit to some school & actual signing day.

Allow then to sign on the spot. Then give them 30 days to act like an idiot, instead of 8 months. That would cut a lot of the corruption. Plus it would all but shut down recruiting grifters like Jamie Newberg.

but Redmond has said he is shutting his recruitment down now that he is committed which is a good thing.
