CBS admits they did not cover 26% of terror attacks at all

The White House prefaced its Monday evening release with a statement saying that, since the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) declared its caliphate in 2014, “There has been a major attack targeting the West executed or inspired by the group more than once every two weeks.”

“Most have not received the media attention they deserved,” the White House added, although many of the attacks were covered by the media.

CBS News covered, in some cases heavily but at least to some extent, more than 74 percent of the attacks on the list.

Translated for liberals, this means that 26% were not covered.

I predicted this when Trump first made the statement. Somebody would start using small-ish attacks to prove a point. I might even added Muslim on Muslim terror

Is that not news? We are at war against radical Islamic terrorists on a global basis. Troops in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan. We may have special ops in places we don't know about. Is this news not relevant? If so, why is it not relevant? Every radical islamic terror attack is NEWS.

This NEWS highlights the dangers of radical Islam. To not cover their cowardly murders of innocents, is to hide their savagery from the American public. CBS reports on BS stuff all the time. This is far more important to the American people.

We cover wars all the time. Yemen is a country that Trump wants a temporary ban to study vetting procedures. You don't seem to realize we are in a very, very different war than war's past. We are not fighting a recognized army with uniforms. We are not fighting another state according to the Geneva Accords. We are fighting an enemy that can be just one person who can inflict massive casualties on innocents.

The war in Yemen is news. Very big news. Because the terrorists there can come here.

Resorting to name calling. Typical of libs. Lose the debate, lash out. What part of WAR ON GLOBAL, ISLAMIC TERRORISM don't you understand? It is news. This is not random violence. This is part of a global struggle. This war is very, very different. One man from Yemen coming to the U.S. can do enormous damage in our free and open society.

BTW, we have troops in Yemen today!

78 incidents were noted on the list released by the WH. So 26% would be 20 incidents not reported. Below is a list of 18 of those 78 instances that are suspect as acts of terror to begin with, so it is plausible that CBS did not cover these incidents. I guess you only have to have a foreign sounding name, commit a crime and it is a terror attack. I guess we have terror attacks here in Atlanta every day?

I think that Trump in his own stupid, clumsy way is pointing out that the media does downplay the threat of terrorism. Why? Probably because they took a cue from Obama who wouldn't use the name radical Islamic terrorist.

They probably felt they did not want to contribute to anti-Muslim violence (although as I proved yesterday, American Jews are far more oppressed when it comes to attacks). They also probably felt they didn't want to "stoke" any anti Muslim American thought.

They probably felt they did not want to contribute to anti-Muslim violence (although as I proved yesterday, American Jews are far more oppressed when it comes to attacks). They also probably felt they didn't want to "stoke" any anti Muslim American thought.

I don't think that is true at all; and why? Because of the context of the statement made by Trump. Here is what he said:

Speaking to troops at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida, the headquarters of the U.S. Central Command, Trump cited a series of recent attacks and then added, "It's gotten to a point where it's not even reported, and in many cases the very, very dishonest press doesn't even want to report it."

Trump told the troops that the media "have their reasons, and you understand that," but didn't elaborate beyond that.

Then later that same day:

Onboard Air Force One as he returned to Washington with the president, press secretary Sean Spicer said terrorist attacks "aren't exactly covered to a degree on which they should be" and said they would release a full list of examples soon.

In reviewing the list there are at least 18 examples where it is a.) doubtful that the incident is an actual terrorist attack, and b.) the incident is so remote or obscure to even raise a blimp for most of the WORLD-WIDE NEWS MEDIA let alone just the U.S. based news organizations, CBS included.

Would it be in the best interest of the U.S. not to foment anti-Muslim feelings? Sure it is, no one wants mob rule against any group. So is it plausible that the news media doesn't mention every incident of violence caused by someone with an Arabic sounding name? Also possible, but to say that the press is dishonest because they didn't report the shooting of a Philadelphia police officer by an unknown U.S. person as a terror attack is irresponsible.

With all due respect some of those attacks were in the U.S. The media does downplay terrorism. Fort Hood. Work place violence. Even the murders in Florida. Evidence of Islamic radicalization in addition to potential mental illness. What is the focus of the media?

Take the Florida night club killings. At first it was just a guy that hated gays. Why report that until the facts are in knowing the killer was a Muslim? Wait until the facts are known. Why immediately jump to gay killer?

Take the attempted murders in Texas at the art exhibit. The media actually blamed Pamela Geller for "inciting" violence. Amazing.

Every American saw the Fort Hood shooter as a terrorist no matter what the DOL called him. I think the media fairly called out the misrepresentation on that one. The others, I can't comment

If you don't believe that Obama and the media downplayed the threat of terrorism, you are not paying attention. Perhaps because you are a liberal, you and I can look at the same evidence and come to different conclusions.

I notice you did not defend any of the examples I cited.

Some of the replies in this thread disgust me. A few people in Yemen don't count. Fine, throw them out of the discussion. What about the rest of the list? Throw it out too? Ahem, these are our enemies. How about not coming to their defense every time you find a fraction of the problem that may not count as a direct attack on the US? It's like you 'Sharia for brains' spout low death tolls on US soil. It would be higher, but apparently Americans don't like to die when knifed. ugh

It's a matter of time before this **** kicks into gear here. We are too open and free as a society in order to effectively guard against this **** all the time. Just let it play out, mourn those that lose, and keep fighting back to preserve our way of life. Against all else, we must maintain our free and open society. As long as we have that, no matter the body count, we'll prevail.

Take a look back at CBS's coverage of the shooting. For that matter, take a look at ABC and NBC. They followed Obama's lead.

For months after the shooting, I can't find an instance where they called it terrorism. Fine reporting. Maybe you can, I couldn't.

Frankly, Chicago is vastly underreported. I guarantee you that if this were happening in a white neighborhood, it would receive nightly coverage. Why don't they cover it? Anyone's guess but a skeptic like me would suggest they are protecting Dem politicians from any fallout. Chicago has been Dem ruled for years and years. They instead blame guns. Amazing.

Wait a minute. Wasn't the terrorist at Ft Hood a US Army Major? This was an example of a Islamic fundamentalist terrorist infiltrating the US Army, advancing to the rank of Major in order to unleash a terror attack within a US Army base? I think that's pretty embarrassing to the US Army, if true. Its still terrorism, but I think it's a little petty to jump on the press for being cautious about what to classify it as quickly.

Boom, I'm not talking about first day or even first week of reporting. Months later they were still reporting it as work place violence. They apparently did no original reporting. He was radicalized while in the Army. There was tons of evidence. The Army was at least party to blame by ignoring repeated warnings. He was still being paid awaiting trial. The victims did not receive monetary awards for battle wounds and no Purple Hearts until very late in the process. Where was the media in all this?

Much wrong there. First, Nidal Hassan was born in Arlington, Virginia ... as in Virginia, USA. So it's not an example of a radical becoming a US Army major, but rather a US Army major becoming radicalized. And mostly he was radicalized against having to deploy.

Well, I think you follow the evidence, no? If you shout Allah Akbar, that is evidence that would certainly point you in a certain direction. If you have nothing on social media, did not communicate with radical Islamists (as the Fort Hood shooter did), or have no other ideological bent, that might point in a different direction like mental illness or a grudge, or some other cause.

He was still being paid because a soldier's pay can only be forfeited as a penalty, either under Article 15 or court-martial conviction.

Good point. But what about the victims? Since it was workplace violence and not the result of wounds/deaths from a terror attack, the victims were denied benefits they deserved. No?
