Cecil Newton just can't help himself

One NFL front office executive tells CBS Sports that he believes Auburn QB Cam Newton's February 10 individual workout is no more than a "publicity stunt."
<div class="s_playerNewsTextMain">It's pretty unprecedented for a draft prospect to hold a pre-Combine workout, and CBS' Rob Rang suggests it may be perceived as Cecil Newton's attempt to "upstage" the NFL and its Combine. Media only will be allowed to watch the workout. Scouts won't be there. Said one NFL scout, "The Newtons would be best to realize they aren't in college anymore. ... They could wind up turning more people against them than for them with this." </div>

And I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of his antics. But I can't help but feel Cecil makes Todd Marinovich's dad look like a loving parent. What a trainwreck that guy has turned out to be. And the fact that he is so blatantly unaware of what an ******* he is makes it all the more tragic for his son.

he's having a work-out, but scouts aren't invited? WTF?

I have a feeling that Cecil is going to try to get involved too much again- but this time with the NFL. He will probably end up a Bengal or a Raider, and inevitably some owner will tell him to 17 off and after Cecil gets his feeling hurt and no NFL team in their right mind will take the guy because of his Dad, Cam will end up a Toronto Argonaught. Then about 20 years from now, we'll all find out that Cecil took all of Cam's money that he made in the NFL and blew it, and then we'll see Cam working for Yella Wood building fences.

I bet Cecil was getting paid by agents from mid-season on.

I'm sure he's been shopping Cam to agents all year getting all he can get out of the situation. You'll probably never find out about it though.

It is obvious from the supposed phone call that Cam made to MSU's recruiter that Cecil has ran his life for him. Cam basically has no say in the matter. I actually feel sorry for the dude.

Cam will be the biggest first round draft pick for Buffalo since OJ.

Everybody hates Cecil. But Cam...he acts like a god. He stands in in front of the bleechers, arms out - basically asking for (and receiving) worship from the fans.

I hope no media shows up for his workout. Or at least no media broadcasts or runs any tape from his workout.

Its obvious Cecil is his agent. No, I'm not kidding. I expect Cecil will negotiate his contract and take a cut of it.

His dad is an *******, but the dad can't do anything without the son's consent. Cam is just as much a willing participant in all of this as Cecil is.

I do blame Cecil MORE than Cam for the malfeasance that went on with his recruitment, but there is no doubt that Cam knew exactly what was happening and was cool with it.

And after having to see Cam's grandstanding and self-promoting behavior on the field all year, I hope that some monster D-lineman (hey, maybe Nick Fairley!) snaps both his knees and he never plays another down. Does that make me a horrible person...probably, but so be it.

Mike Brown will make special arrangements for a closed door workout (sometime Marvin Lewis isn't around), and somehow the city of Cincinnati will end up owing Cecil Newton money for it.

I have also seen where he signed with a guy named Tony Paige also who is Cecil Jr's agent. There has not been much talk about this though.
