At the risk of getting shelled here, I'd like to see IC do the same. They almost historically breezed through the entire 3A bracket last year. Considering the returning starters on the Knights team and the fact that Phillips is no longer in their path, it will be a repeat cakewalk like last year.

How about Rochester? How many 4A titles have they won? Why not petition up?

I don't think it'll happen. But I wouldn't mind seeing the knights do it. Would love to see a MCC vs IC matchup like the old scc days. Was always a good brawl.

I have been a proponent of schools playing in the "class" that they are used to in the regular season. By that mean reinstating "football enrollment" This would likely move Rochester to 5A.
I also think that ALL schools should be subject to the "success factor" not just open boundary. This would include Rochester.
With all that said, at least Rochester gets a challenging game here and there in 4A. They are not putting running clocks up all 5 rounds.

You could make the argument by moving up to 5a Phillips was looking for the easier path.

I've heard Aurora Christian will drop to 2A this year. Actual enrollment is about 235. IHSA website shows their multiplied enrollment to be 392.

AC could make a lot of noise in 2A if they can get to 5 wins and not be too beat up from a CCL regular season schedule.

The counter argument is they have won 6 of the last 7 4A titles. IMO, they are making a sham of the success factor's selective application.

Well its not selective, applies to all schools that are considered without boundary..

Success Adjustment A sport or activity program at a non-boundaried school shall be subject to the success adjustment if, over the course of the last four school terms, the program has won at least two trophies, one of which must have been within the last two school years. In such a case, one trophy won in the highest class will be disregarded, and the school will be moved up one class from the highest class of the remaining trophies. A school will never be adjusted up or down more than one class from one school year to the next.

If I read the "Success Adjustment" policy in the IHSA handbook correctly: If Phillips moves up to 5A and wins a trophy next year they would be moved (barring petition) to 4A. Is that correct?

Petition is good for 2 years so they need to play 5A for 2 years.

For some reason they are not classified as a non boundary school..no success adjustment

I have to wonder if this move by Phillips is an agreement between CPS and IHSA, get Phillips into a higher class while still allowing the rest of the CPS schools to keep their boundary status.

I have to wonder if this move by Phillips is an agreement between CPS and IHSA, get Phillips into a higher class while allowing Herscher a much better chance to reach the state finals.

See I can post ridiculousness too...

Phillips coach petitions up, which I thought was what you wanted, and now there is some grand conspiracy going on behind closed doors. This is high school football, not game of thrones.

Well I don't know what else to say.
I've stated here on edgytim multiple times that I'd like to see changes, one of them being that success factor apply to everyone.
I'd personally like to see Rochester, EIC, Phillips and Althoff all in the same class. Would probably be some great games. Much better than watching EIC have a running clock by halftime vs Wilmington, Byron and Tolono.

Why is it so ridiculous? Makes a lot of sense... of course the idea of a back room deal in Chicago is so tough to believe????

It's quite clear Phillips needs to be considered a non boundary school, but if the IHSA does that, they have to do it to almost all CPS schools.. do we really want to see 90% of the CPS schools multiplied??? Of course not..

IHSA has been on the receiving end of a lot of criticism over Phillips..

Solution is Phillips bumps itself up, other neighbourhood CPS schools remain with no multiplier, IHSA no longer hears the griping of the 3A schools about Phillips..
