And a brief note to future posters: just because you don't "like" black & white movies or are too dumb to read subtitles and watch a movie at the same time does not make whatever piece of crap remake "better" than the original.

*that is overly harsh. The Magnificent Seven is really good, and technically it's a remake.

Both movies were good. The John Wayne version is now dated. For the time it was great. The Billy Bob version was more historical and they had the advantage of modern technology in the filming. Both had sets builtfor the film. Both sets were great however in the Billy Bob version San Antonio was historical with all the correct buildings in the correct place. They also had the Tennesseans at the stockade but the John Wayne version did not plus there were 15 survivors after the battle historically and all were executed along with David Crockett. In the John Wayne version David Crockett went out with out with a blaze of glory where in theBilly Bob version they showed David Crockett getting bayoneted after the battle. One thing both movies missed was the burning of the bodies. San Anna had all the defenders bodies’ burn.

Bug's Life was The Magnificent Seven was Seven Samarui
Even Star Wars is argued to be a remake of The Hidden Fortress

But for me, the best remake of all time is the movie Infernal Affairs became.... The Departed.

I would not say that it is just light years better than the original but it was pretty good.

Also, I think this new Robin Hood with Russell Crowe will beat the hell out of Kevin Costner's version.

Clash was total horseshit. Either the studio meddled with the script too much or the writers were idiots.. but either way, the characters were so poorly conceived that I scarcely cared whether Perseus got back to save Andromeda at all. Instead, Bubo became a beautiful, enlightened woman and that's the only person in the movie you care about. Then they kill her but say they were just kidding by having Zeus bring her back.

And Perseus?... he went from an insignificant victim of a boating accident and nearly a political prisoner to the only hope of mankind's survival in like... 3 seconds. What's up with that?

The whole thing was a mess. Just a total mess. And it's one of the few times I've resented paying the 3D up-charge. The entire movie was dark and dimly lit because of it. Hell... the comic scene in Kick *** had better 3D effects and you didn't even need glasses.

Clash '10?... 17 that movie.

Note that I did not say it was a great movie. I recently watched some of the original Clash and it seemed like crap compared to how I remembered it as a kid. Maybe it was Harry Hamlin's haircut or something. Personally I liked looking at the woman instead of a robotic owl.

There may be some fuzziness on whether or not it is a remake but I would think Batman Begins was technically a prequel to the original Batman, and The Dark Knight would be considered the actual remake.

Costner's version was a remake of Errol Flynn's version- and that one my friend, can't be beat

But Kenneth Branagh's Henry V kicks the crap out of Sir Laurence Olivier's version.

Maybe not technically better, but it had enough of a run to be way up there on my list.

I haven't seen the new one yet, but hey, at least the stop motion version had topless nudity for like 3 seconds. If it's pg-13 I doubt they have any nipples in it.

No, seriously, Cape Fear, The Thing, Magnificent Seven, are all great answers. I would add The Getaway and La Femme Nikkita.

...the Michael Mann remake of his 80's TV show, and I thought it was excellent. If you can get past Colin Farrell's stache/mullet combo, it's a really tight action/drama. It certainly didn't deserve the lukewarm response it got from audiences and critics.
