I had an opportunity to take in a different game this week with Westfield on a bye. This was a fun game to watch with both teams making multiple huge plays (most of them long passing plays) but it came down to just a select few plays that made the difference in the outcome: a potential INT dropped by W-L that CV scored on right after, a jump offsides by W-L on 4th and 6 with CV lined up for a FG that changed the play and resulted in a CV TD, and a W-L coaching decision on the CV one with the first half winding down that kept W-L from cutting into the CV lead. Here are the scoring drives with some comments.

First Half
1. W-L 66 yards, Black 28 yard run (Aqwari XP), 7-0 6:35 1st
2. CV 90 yard KOR by Solomon (Lucero XP), 7-7 6:21 1st
3. W-L 80 yards, Flint-Steinig 79 yard pass to Fullen (Aqwari XP), 14-7 5:17 1st
4. CV 57 yards, Shields 26 yard pass to Poythress (Lucero XP), 14-14 3:08 1st
5. CV 81 yards, Shields 12 yard pass to Simpson (Lucero XP), 21-14 9:26 2nd. On this drive CV faced 4th and 6 at the W-L 17 yard line and they sent out the FG team. W-L was offsides so CV sent out the offense, got the first down, and scored immediately after.
6. CV 67 yards, Shields 8 yard run (Lucero XP) 28-14 3:18 2nd. On this drive W-L dropped a potential INT in the end zone and CV scored a play or two later.
7. W-L goes 80 yards to reach the CV one yard line with first and goal, 13 seconds remaining, and no time outs. W-L elected to run the ball and it was stopped for no gain and they could not spike the ball in time. 28-14 CV at the half.

Second Half-being up 14 CV tried to manage the clock with more of a running game.
1. CV 54 yards, Stover 26 yard run (Lucero XP), 35-14 4:30 3rd
2. W-L 58 yards, Flint-Steinig 4 yard pass to Toepel (Aqwari XP) 35-21 10:39 4th
3. W-L 98 yards, Flint-Steinig 16 yard pass to Arensen (Aqwari XP) 35-28 4:46 4th
4. On the next CV drive W-L's defense held and CV had to punt to pin W-L at their own nine yard line with 2:29 remaining in the game. Many of W-L's successful plays in this drive were against CV blitzes that forced Flint-Steinig to make plays, as CV really went after him-so much so that they received two roughing the passer calls against them. W-L did convert two fourth downs on the drive to reach the CV 24 yard line where they faced yet again another 4th down with only a few seconds on the clock. On the final play of the drive the W-L receiver was open running a route along the goal line but the pass was inches away from his fingertips and CV only had to snap the ball once in victory formation.
