I think Rick Cleveland had is backwards. He says compared to the NFL, college football is too long and lacks flow.

They NFL does package games that are almost all 3 hrs long. College does run longer. And I didn't know this:
And now I'll tell you the biggest difference between the NFL and college football - its the NFL games that lack flow. It is NFL games that have too many commercials. Hell, the time it takes to go from a score to a kickoff is almost as long as halftime!!
Rick Cleveland forgets there have already been rule changes to run the college football clock more often. But as I pointed out repeatedly, this wasn't to speed up the game. This was to fit in more commercials. That game didn't get shorter. We just got more TV timeouts.
Regardless, college football flows a lot better than the NFL. There may be more short clock stoppages for first down and such, but so what. I guarantee you that in college ball, the time spent between commercials actually watching the game is longer than it is in the NFL.

"I'll tell you the biggest difference," Vaughan said. "In pro football,
the officials tell TV when to come back from a commercial. In college
football, TV tells the officials when to restart the game. Some TV
stoppages last three minutes or more."
