Watching Oregon and Texas Tech now. Oregon leads 6-0.

This is the 6th quarterfinal game under the new 12-team format, and in all 6 the team with the bye has trailed at the half. The lower seeded teams in those 6 quarterfinal games have outscored the higher seeds in the first half 101-21. I think we can safely say that these 25+ day layoffs are counterproductive.

It’s a foregone conclusion that we’re going to a 16 team playoff next year with NO byes.

It kind of what use to happen in the basketball tournament. The teams that got the byes didn’t perform well against the teams that didn’t get a bye. I hope they expand it but I hope they take the best teams. These teams from the Group of 4 aren’t the same caliber as the Power Conference teams.

Have to allow access to one G5 champ for anti-trust reasons. I think they need to quit goofing around with the top 5 ranked champions and simply go with all P4 champs plus the top G5. With 16 teams, that will make room for 11 at large teams.

They should either have all the conference champs (P4 and G5) plus 6 at-large or let the G5 have their own championship and have 8 in a P4 only playoff. The latter would be preferable to me, since I don’t think the G5 would be competitive very often and because if you are only allowing one of their teams in, you are basically saying they don’t really belong, so they might as well separate. None of this will make any sense as long as there are committees, votes, eye-tests, resumes, and all the absurdity of an opinion-based system to determine playoff participants.

Oh good. Then ESPN, I mean the SEC can have 7 teams and a 4 loss team in the playoffs while a very good Notre Dame team sits out again.

Completely agree on the opinion based BS. It’s not rocket science … would much prefer those at large teams are selected by some type of tiebreaker system, starting with W-L records, that is agreed upon prior to the season.

Looks like we traded up in class when we lost the game against Georgia and replaced it with Ole Miss in Nashville. Great finish to that quarterfinal last night.
