Option A:
  • 12-team CFP
  • 8-game SEC schedule
    • one permanent SEC opponent
  • four non-con games
    • at least one P4 opponent (or major independent)
    • no more than one FCS opponent
Option B:
  • 16-team CFP
  • 9-game SEC schedule
    • three permanent SEC opponents
  • three non-con games
    • no more than one FCS opponent
I chose one and three permanent SEC opponents, respectively, because both options allow you to play every other SEC team every two years and visit every other SEC town every four years.

I chose option 1 because 8 SEC games is better than 9 for us.
That's why I connected it to CFP expansion.

A 16-team CFP/9-game SEC schedule means a 9-3 (6-3) SEC team likely makes the CFP. I think that is more attainable for State than 10-2 (6-2) with a 12-team CFP/8-game SEC schedule.

Besides the money, I think that is what would incentivize the SEC to add a ninth game.

I think a 9th game is inevitable. The SEC will never go for only 1 permanent opponent. I also think a 16-team playoff is inevitable.

Option B, and my reasoning:

- I'd like to somewhat bring back rivalries, and 3 permanents allows that;
- I want more teams in the playoff, as we aren't near the percentage that other levels of football have;
- More SEC games and cross pollination;
- Looks like SEC will be guaranteed 4 teams regardless;
- I have basically given up on MSU consistently being good at football, for various reasons, so may as well have better games and maybe dream of making a playoff one day;
- Players are being paid, so 17 you, play more games and entertain me.

Yeah, but you know that the SEC will try to 17 us and give us as our 3 permanents, Georgia, alabama, and Texas. Yes, I know I didn't capitalize alabama, 17'em.

ETA: Wow. I guess I should have put these *****. I was sure that this group would get it.

I know they've said Ole Miss, Kentucky and Texas A&M but I've always said it would likely be Ole Miss, Alabama and someone else, mainly due to proximity.

ole miss, Kentucky and A&M wouldn't be bad, and I know that they have mentioned that, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Our 3 permanents will most likely be UMiss, Arkansas & A&M.
