I had an Ole Miss fan argue with me today saying there is a difference. All I see is national seminal in football and national semifinal in basketball. Seems the same to me. What does everyone think?

No difference in stature. Obviously, also completely different setups.

There is a bunch of northern schools that don't play football. Basketball is their main, biggest sport. In the South, football gets more emphasis. Both sports get a ton of publicity. I'd say it's pretty much a wash, all things considered. Good luck getting those idiots to admit it.

Top 4 of 12 vs Top 4 of 64, less room to make a mistake against an inferior opponent. I think the Final 4 in Basketball is tougher to achieve.

Difference:

• a final four buys the coach another year in MBB
• a final four bus the coach two years in CFB

One thing I'll always remember about the final four run, was that once we won that elite 8 game, the national media took notice.

Even old sports 56 in Memphis was praising State.

With that said, I think the football final 4 gets you more pub.

Except they actually won some hardware. Sugar Bowl trophy and trip to the football final four. 2014 was a lot of fun for a while, but we didn’t win schitt. Not even the Egg Bowl. Still pissed at Mullen for blowing that game
