that at the highest level of the sport (i.e. the level Wilder competes at), the 400m IS considered a sprint race.

Michael Johnson once held the world record in the 200m and 400m. His 200 meter record was 19.32 seconds. It stands to reason that the 400 meter record would be 38.64 seconds (2 times 19.32). Actually it would be less than 38.64 seconds because you don't start the second 200m segment of the 400 meters from a starting block, instead it is obviously started on the run (I am breaking the 400m into two 200m segments)

Yet Michael Johnson's 400m world record was only 43.18 seconds, much slower than the 38.64 I calculated.

Didn't Wilder also run the 200m at one time? That would mean he has a little bit of a burst since that is a sprint (ask Usain Bolt...or rather WATCH Usain Bolt). Two more years and he could be the best deep threat in the SEC assuming we have a QB that can throw dimes.

Agreed that 400 meters is classifed as a "sprint" race. However, nobody runs it flat wide-open. There is pacing involved at all levels, from junior high to Olympic level.

O'neal's fastest time in the 400 is 45.5 and his fastest split in that race is the second 100 meters. You run all out straight out of the blocks. Trust me........

The fact that you ran the 400 in high school dosen't mean ****. It is a whole nother' level in college track, especially in the SEC. Trust me........

His fastest time in the 200 is 20.08, again, an all out sprint.

All that being said I seriously doubt O'Neal runs a sub 4.4. In fact he isn't a for sure 4.4 guy. If you want to know more PM me.

Clyde Hart, who coached Michael Johnson and Jeremy Wariner disagrees. He coaches college track. See my edited post above with direct quotes from Mr. Hart. He is fairly qualified in my opinion.

I never said Wilder wasn't fast, I simply made the point that Holliday and Wilder are different kinds of "fast". If Wilder runs a sub 4.4 40, then I stand corrected and I'd put Holliday and Wilder in the same category.
