He absolutely should lose a ton of credibility. The dude's become rich and famous selling his ability to predict draft order, but we now learn he's been doctoring his past articles to make his picks look better than they actually were. It's pure dishonesty.

It's nice work by whoever the folks were who caught it, though.

This was the same guy who was assuring people that Daniel Orton was going to be taken near the lottery. I'm sure he has good sources but he's never been credible to me.

Many here seemed to hang on every word Ford said, surely draft stock doesn't change as much on a game to game basis as he made it seem..Draft stock and NCAAT brackets in January are good for entertainment only and not much else.

From Reddit:

"I worked for a prominent NBA agent years ago. Chad Ford came by our
office a few times and was buddy/buddy with the agent. He would always
write puff pieces about the agent's clients while he was in town and
would without fail shoot the clients up his draft board and call them
"fast risers" based on "sources" who were impressed with their workouts.
None of our clients ever had a bad workout. I never put an ounce of
stock into anything he's written since that time."

Yep, I remember that Young scouting report being as about the first moment I realized Ford was full of ****. The things Young did worst at Ky Ford was claiming were his strengths, things he did best Ford claimed as weaknesses. It was like he scouted the bizarre world version of Young.

The real problem is that people pay money to read that in the first place. A monthly fee to see a daily/weekly update of who is going to be drafted where? I mean, sure, spend your cash however you want, but "premium" information is going to have its own chapter when our grandchildren study the early days of the Internet.

I agree. These organizations are supposed to have some sort of professional standards, even if its sports.

I've always found that for whatever reason, a lot of editors/publishers give their sports people a pass when it comes to upholding journalistic standards, even though it hurts them in the long run.

I actually think he will be let go after this. Will be interesting to see ESPN's reaction, they've already edited the pages back to their original picks now.

It's amazing how terrible all these people are. In all my years of following recruiting/draft stuff one person has consistently seemed to do a good job and it was Dave Telep, guess what happened to him? The smartest organization in the NBA the Spurs hired him away from ESPN. I swear to god it seems like 90% of the people in charge of making front office decisions in the NBA and NFL don't watch college basketball or football. They can't, there's no way so many terrible picks would be happening. Chad Ford, Evan Daniels, Jerry Meyer, Johnathan Giovny, Paul Biancardi, Fran Frischilla, Tom Luginbill, Justin Rowland, Kiper, McShay, etc... they are literally all a gigantic joke. It's just like somebody said above all these guys suck off the coaches, players, agents, and organizations that return the favor.

Statement from ESPN:

"After reviewing the post on Reddit today, we have found that changes were made manually to Chad Ford's NBA Draft prospects rankings. We have not been able to determine who made the changes, or when. We have talked to Chad Ford, who strongly denies any involvement, and based on his past work and professionalism, we believe him. Our review will continue but it is unclear at this time if we will be able to ascertain who was responsible."

So super-awesome-expert hackers got into ESPN's system and made Chad Ford's picks look much better, leaving no trace. Seems likely.

ESPN's arrogance is just too much. They always go at least one step too far.

Yup. Some people who sell stock picking subscription services do the same thing. Point out all the good picks you made last year and edit the bad ones out. Revisionist history marketing.

"Nope."
"Well, then... I believe you."

i mean... who else could it have possibly been? only one person stands to gain anything, and that's Chad Ford. who else would give a big enough smurf to make that effort? c'mon, man.

Plus why would expert hackers have any motive to make Chad Ford look better without telling him? Makes no sense at all.

The only parties who'd logically have the motive and access to do this would be Chad Ford and/or his employer (ESPN). Unless maybe he wanst to blame it on his mom.....

NCAA and ESPN, two organizations that are completely unreliable. More apparent each day!

Maybe we can get them to fix the schedule and score functions on this site.

So Ford came to them and said "Hey, if it looked like I was more accurate, I think we would get more insider sales." ESPN agrees, gets busted and everyone denies, denies, denies.

I love the subtlety and anonymity of hackers. They only moved a few picks a few spots. Must be the same guys who deflated footballs one pound of pressure.

I would love to get paid to write crap like this.... PROJECTING???? The more controversial he is the more people talk about him. Just a bunch of malarkey!!! People who read junk like this are the same people that watch the weather believing what they say is going to happen will actually happen.

Chad Ford
Pete Thamal
Pat Forde
Jeff Goodman

Anytime these guys cash a paycheck they should be arrested for fraud.

That is all.
