They're playing in Biloxi. Anybody know what the course is? It looks a bit ragged for a pro tournament.

It's Fazio's course called Fallen Oak. Beautiful course. Assume it's too damn early for it to be in good shape.

It's an awesome course. Wish I could afford to play it (the green fee is expensive, but you can't even pay the green fee unless you stay at least 2 nights in the Beau).

Maybe the TV isn't doing it justice? I've gone the past 2 years and it was in great shape. Haven't been up there yet this year, but I'll be there tomorrow. There's a really good field again this year. Props to Yates for sending me VIP arm bands aGain this year. Free food and beer on #18 is hard to beat. Too bad it's prolly going to rain tomorrow...

Could be that television doesn't do it justice. The fairways look good, but some of the areas around the greens apparently didn't get overseeded and the Bermuda is only half green so it looks a bit bad. They even mentioned one area that a player was getting an unmarked GUR ruling on. The rough is deep but not overseeded either. Probably looks great in the summer.

You know how much the green fee is?

The last time I checked was a couple years ago when my wife's office wanted to give a couple rounds to a co-worker who was retiring. I did the research for her (which is when I found out about the 2-night stay requirement) and I want to say that the green fee was $225, plus about that much per night at the Beau. They ended up getting them a weekend stay at Kiva dunes with 2 rounds and that was much cheaper than the same type package at Fallen Oak.

It has been voted the #1 public course in MS since it opened, I believe...

it is 3/4th depending on who rates them. annandale is consistently #1 (for what reason i don't know. don't care for it personally) old wavely pretty consistent #2 then reunion/fallen oak for 3/4. fallen oak is usually pristine. very little play comparatively. its still march though.

Geez, I thought casino hotels were relatively cheap. Was there something special going on, like a big concert or something? I know that during the week you can go to Tunica for about $39 at the Gold Strike. Never stayed there, but the price is right. Quite a bit more on the weekend though. The rates at Philadelphia were similar last time I was there, but much more on the weekend. Played Dancing Rabbit one time and I can't remember how much but it was nowhere near $225. Fallen Oak must be a really nice place. I guess I'm just used to the RTJ Trail Card rate ... most are about $40 including cart, and even Ross Bridge is under $100. And the courses at Gulf Shores and Destin are pretty reasonable too.

Isn't Annandale the one near Jackson that's a minor PGA stop, same time as the British Open so the big names can't make it?

I just looked and the Beau's rooms are much cheaper during the week, but the weekends are insane ($230-$350 per night): https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/bookingengine.aspx?host=hotel&pid=180

I also just checked a golfing blog and the green fees are now running $200 at Fallen Oak.

My office is a block north of the Hard Rock and the casinos get crazy down here on the weekends. I also read an article this morning that was discussing that Tunica is hurting now due to the reduction in patrons from ARK. I assumed based on the article that ARK has gaming now, but I'm not sure of that. That may account for the cheaper prices there.

I didn't know Arkansas was getting casinos. Kinda wish Alabama would, but it's really highly resisted here for some reason. When I was at MSU, I would have thought that Mississippi would be the last place in the world for casinos ... they didn't even allow hard liquor in the state ... but I was obviously wrong.

What is the better course? Grand Bear or Fallen Oak? I've played Grand Bear and have not seen Fallen Oak.

They only average 6 or 8 rounds a day being played on the course....

That's just crazy, nice course just sitting there....

It doesn't take a mathematical genius to see ...

that they'd make a lot more money if they cut the exorbitant greens fees by about 75%. It's not Pebble Beach. There's an optimal pricing/maintenance point there, and 6 or 7 rounds a day isn't it. It's a public course, right? Is it privately owned or owned by the city?

The Beau owns it - it is well north of Biloxi near Desoto National Forrest. The city of Biloxi has no skin in it.

My company designed and maintains their on-site wastewater treatment plant. As others have said, there is hardly anyone ever playing up there and I think that is how they like it...

Gluckstadt is between Madison and Canton. A lot of residential development there in the last 15 years. They just opened Germantown high school last year. It's 4A and will be 5A in the next classification.
