Marist week 1
Crete week 2

Tough first two games, a lot of hype there in Crusader Land, being early in the year a lot of new comers, new Qb, just curious on peoples thoughts since a lot of people are riding high on BR

I think they get by Marist week one, CM on a short week could be a trap game feeling good after week one win playing at home...Crete comes in and puts up 14 in the first quarter...watch out.

Gosh I'm the other way. I think Marist might squeak by BR and then BR takes it out on Crete the following week.

I think there's a pretty decent chance of this, don't see them running the table at all like a lot of posters here do. They have a playmaker on offense in Smalling, but I think it's tough to win games with just a star WR. Gotta be able to get him the ball. They play a really tough defense with pass rushing ability (i.e., Marist) and they could be in trouble.

My tag name might suggest a little bias, but what am I missing?

Do we have any Marist fans on here? I seem to recall a Marist player going down with an injury in the championship game.

I see BR pulling it out in a close one as they'll be sporting a new look. Against C-M, I have no idea.

If they have anyone who can take the focus off Smalling, it'll help tremendously.

I hope Marist only worries about defending Smallling.

Marist is replacing several skill position players. I think they have more questions at the moment than the Maroon and Orange.

BRS offense will be better this year then it was last year from a talent standpoint. Besides smalling the wr 's are Branden Houston who is a returning starter. Sheldon benn who is a 6'5 really athletic kid who has struggled with injury but is now healthy. And at running back the have valladay who holds an offer from Western illinois.

Why are you convinced their quarterback will be an issue? He's pretty damn good.

i just said new QB, didn't say he wasn't good, but it is challenging to step into the Blue & a tough schedule and compete after being on a bench for a year, going against back ups, the positive the QB has is Smalling as a blanket, when in doubt throw it to him

Marist and Crete-Monee are also replacing great quarterbacks, so it's not like there's any real difference there. Miller didn't have any experience either after sitting behind Alarcon his junior year.

My memory is fading. Is this the BR team everyone predicted good things from or was it last year?

Couple months ago I thought BR would win by 17....after reading about Marist, I think it may be closer, but BR still wins. I think BR will be fine on offense, I don't know about this transfer QB, but the QB in this BR senior class (McNamara??) was 16-2 when he was at the helm as a Fr-Soph, and this new guy beat him out....I think Marist is stronger defensively, I think its a weak point for BR....they gave up a ton of points last season and they lost some of the better players from that unit, but in the end BR will score more points, unless this new Marist QB can fill some big shoes.....I think BR handles Crete, so put them as 2-0 in my opinion.

Rice was up at Crete 42-7 last year before pulling everyone and CM took 2nd in 6A. Not really seeing an issue there. Week 1 vs. Marist obviously anything can happen, 2 ranked teams, neutral field, rivalry game.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a talented Rice offense against a veteran Marist defense, and the wild cards on the other side of the field for both teams. I love it.

Either way this one is gonna be awesome, can't wait. Burns me that we have to wonder whether we'll get to see this match up year-over-year, but that's a different story all together...

I know that they have 2 stud defensive players but I really don't recall Marist being a defensive power. Gave up 62 to Nazareth last year, 56 to Barrington, 42 to NDCP & 35 each to JCA & Oswego. I don't really see it.

rice will handle cm just fine.

with regard to marist, i have no idea. I think both teams, in the past few years have gotten a lot of hype ... all sort of pointing toward this being their season. I think the game is a pick'em.

Rice got all cloak and dagger at their scrimmage Announced there were no rosters available, then eventually handed them out. Then the players switched their jersey #'s .

2 Marist coaches and then of course Dean in the stands. Had to protect and tossed in the Statue Of Liberty to mix things up. What they're really going to run is a Fumblerooskie on their first play followed by a triple reverse then a WR option pass from Smalling to O'Keefe.

Dean acknowledged that Lacy was the 2nd best guy he saw behind Smalling - then Valladay - then Houston/King and O'Keeffe (the Soph). Said the QB doesn't have the same arm as Miller but might be a better pocket passer and runner if needed.

According to the story, Alek Thomas is also a shortstop. Been a long while since I've seen a left-handed shortstop.
