Putting in subs is like a box of chocolates…
That's basically it at this point. Folks get on Pope for the substitutions but I see his line of thought. If he can give the starters some rest and play even with the opponent, then he's golden. The problem has been that Perry and Noah have gone ice cold from 3 so when they come in and miss shots, it doesn't balance out their putrid defense. I remember when LSU went on that 6-0 run the other night. Perry and Noah both missed their 3-point shot attempts. If those shots both fall, you've played even with them. But they didn't so your opponent is on a 6-0 run that you have to call timeout and get your starters back in sooner than you wanted.

If you don't know who's going to be able to come in and make shots, it becomes difficult to sub correctly.

Chandler played well against LSU. The problem is he has just been way too inconsistent when he has gotten minutes, which should be 100% expected when you haven't played competitively in two years.

I envision him having a lot of success at the college level, which hopefully will occur at UK.

As for this year, if he can give UK similarly what he did against LSU each game from here on out, that would be big time with Jax being out. Not holding my breath that it will happen, but he definitely has it in him to play at that level.

Against LSU....

Going 3-6 from three

2-2 FT

4 assists

4 boards

All in only 11 minutes

May have earned himself even more minutes going forward
His biggest issue the first half of the year was his ball handling and decision making. Both are really a product of being out of basketball for 2 years and the speed of the game. He lost a lot of confidence early. It appears his decision making and rust handling are getting to where we all thought he would be. He seems like a great kid(all of them do). Happy he has turned the corner.

Hopefully his confidence is steadfast even when he has a bad game. Got to be like a man-to-man corner and forget you got beat on the last play.

Chandler comes closer to replacing JRob at least from a size standpoint. If he takes another step or 2 the next week or so, it would be helpful. Essentially Brea is attempting to replace JRob, and Chandier is attempting to replace Brea.

Might be my imagination, but I sensed Chandler realizing that we need him to step up and attempting to step up to the task.

I don’t love his handles, but there are a lot of other things I like about his game. And we only have 1 more road game all season, which I think is helpful for all of the younger guys.

Chandler was highly regarded out of high school. Ranked in the mid 20's, I believe. 2 years off is a big thing to bounce back from. His athleticism is clearly next level compared to the other two freshmen as well. He has a bright future and I hope it's with UK.

Person I respect said Chandler “had a little talking to “ a while back about needing to step up and show something.

We knew going in that he perhaps had the most upside of anyone on the roster. He needed Perry’s minutes and we wouldn’t be putting him trial by fire at the very end. Pope has put too much into Perry and for that matter noah too. They should be playing only in extreme circumstances

2nd half of SEC play he looks like he can be a guy that plays here. Wasn't sure for a while but hope he develops at UK.

I think it took some time to knock the rust off, and get up to game speed, the guy was out for two years, and going from high school to college without sitting out takes some time to adjust.
