Wish I could dispute this but I can'tPope is gonna have to pull off a David Blaine, Harry Houdini job to find a team that can finish in the top half of the SEC. So far it appears this is just a one year 5 million dollar cash grab before UK can move on to a serious coach.
That recovery and bust on the board in the last game was nothing short of phenomenal. Not many at the guard position could do that better. John Wall, but not may.He can absolutely drive with enough spacing too. Has a few of our best dunks in years.
I have a similar, but slightly different perspective:Chandler and Moreno I feel are the core of the team and he if goes then I think we are in some real trouble going forward.
Also, Utah is beautiful. Wasatch Range in the backyard, yes.If I was Chandler I would go to BYU . Be close to family and a better chance of winning and much better coaching ........ also the Marriotts handing out nil money like candy.
The UK program has committed suicide - untill wholesale changes are made its not coming back. To anyone saying we are becoming Indiana ......... no were not we are IU but without Cignetti........ maybe Stein will shine who knows but I know Pope won't.
Would BYU want him if some of you don’t think he is good enough for us but their program has passed us?Also, Utah is beautiful. Wasatch Range in the backyard, yes.
Let me clarify this, many of us think Chandler and Moreno should be the core RETURNING PLAYERS. I don't think anyone disagrees that we need to bring in at least 3-4 better players than those 2.I have a similar, but slightly different perspective:
iF Chandler and Moreno are the core of the team THEN I think we are in some real trouble going forward.
Yeah. I'm confused.Would BYU want him if some of you don’t think he is good enough for us but their program has passed us?
I have no idea. That's what others here are saying.Would BYU want him if some of you don’t think he is good enough for us but their program has passed us?
Another day another rumor I guessAll rumors today are Chandler likely to come back, lol.
Core doesn’t mean go to go guys and who is expected to lead the charge as far scoring etc. It means they are solid glue guys that know the system and are pieces that can contribute to winning ie Darius Miller type players.I have a similar, but slightly different perspective:
iF Chandler and Moreno are the core of the team THEN I think we are in some real trouble going forward.
Totally disagree. Chandler absolutely has UK talent. He’s not Malik Monk but he could absolutely be a 15ppg guy here next year as a junior. Hes better than Richie Saunders at the same stage IMO. Lowe on the other hand I’ll agree with. He’s fine as a backup but not a starter.Neither Chandler or Lowe were traditional UK level talents!
If Chandler played at UC, had his production from last season, and was rumored to come to UK, 95% of you would be LYAOand wondering what in actual h3ll Pope was thinking!
Dude is, was, and always will be, a mid level mid major spot up shooter.
For real. Hell him being a 25 year old senior is a good thing. What will that matter if he is averaging 18? If they keep allowing Pros in there will be a lot of 25 year olds. Lame point
I also think his dog is from Utah. Or, nearby. Also, Utah is beautiful. Wasatch Range in the backyard, yes.
He also can’t dribble around a fire hydrant without looking down. The only issue with Chandler is that he can’t guard a fire hydrant.
Moreno and Chandler as the glue guys? I stand by my assessment. Though I often wished Moreno had a little glue on his hands on rebounds. I think they could be good supplemental pieces.Core doesn’t mean go to go guys and who is expected to lead the charge as far scoring etc. It means they are solid glue guys that know the system and are pieces that can contribute to winning ie Darius Miller type players.
Agree! Wasn’t Chandler a top 35 recruit coming out before his mission trip? Not sure why some feel he’s not UK level. He has the athleticism but needs to hone the skills. If used properly he could definitely be a Jeff Sheppard type player.Totally disagree. Chandler absolutely has UK talent. He’s not Malik Monk but he could absolutely be a 15ppg guy here next year as a junior. Hes better than Richie Saunders at the same stage IMO. Lowe on the other hand I’ll agree with. He’s fine as a backup but not a starter.
Sounds like a good dribbling drill to add to practice since you never know when a fire hydrant might appear on the court during a game. Prepare for all contingencies! He also can’t dribble around a fire hydrant without looking down.
I don't think his ball handling is that bad. I think he just isn't good at finishing thru contact. OK then, develop a good floater like Reeves did (before the contact). I'd love to know what Reeves shooting % was on that floater his last year, it had to be 60-70%.With a good point guard, Chandler would average 12-14 points per game. A little bit of work handling the ball and determination to get better at shooting a floater, he could average 14-16 points per game. I would say that’s pretty important.
Moreno is a solid rebounder. Averaged 8.4 per30min. Not Oscar #'s, but nobody puts up Oscar #'s. But 8.4 is better than WCS all 3 years, only 0.5 behind Noel, better than Bam, better than JR-year Richards.Moreno and Chandler as the glue guys? I stand by my assessment. Though I often wished Moreno had a little glue on his hands on rebounds. I think they could be good supplemental pieces.
Agree. Chandler definitely needs to work on his handles, as he lacks the ability to create his own shot off the dribble.I’d want him back as 6-8 man. Can shoot sometimes but for the life of him can’t get to the rim.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. I think that was the problem with recruiting last year. We overpaid on almost all of the players from last year.I like him but hope Pope doesn't go overboard and overpay to keep him.
I agree 100% with you. Moreno and Chandler would be serviceable back-ups on a TOP TEN team, but not starters. Your example of our line-up with Quaintance and Lowe healthy best-illustrates the point. Nicely done ...A lot has been made about injuries. Well, here's an injury observation. Had the UK roster been healthy, Chandler would not have started. Moreno would not have started. I'd like a roster at the very least that talented next season, talented enough that both would not start, wouldn't you?
How much more upside does Chandler have? Is he willing to come for an off-the-bench role?
Did we overpay for this past year's roster? I don't want to overpay next year for anyone we overpaid for this year.
We need a talent upgrade, quickness, ball handling, stay in front of your man defense, take your man and finish in traffic skills upgrade.
Mark Pope's shown a willingness to make changes to the coaching staff. He needs to have all the possible returnees in his Moneyball Man's database and see if there aren't better players available.
Why does everybody say this? The only issue with Chandler is that he can’t guard a fire hydrant.
But this could very well be coaching.
Pope’s teams are soft, can’t guard, and can’t rebound.
