Chaney is high on Torbush and the staff

It didn't take him long once first-year coach Dan Mullen and the rest of his staff settled in to realize that he'd made the right choice.</p>

"I see it as a blessing in disguise," said Chaney, a second-team All-SEC selection in 2007. "At first, I was down and wondering about everything, wondering if this was the right thing. But to come back and go through a whole offseason and now a season with Coach Mullen and his staff has been exactly what I needed.</p>

"Coach (Matt) Balis (the Bulldogs' strength coach) has me in the best shape of my life, and Coach (Carl) Torbush is the best linebacker coach I've had and the best defensive coordinator I've had. I'm happy where I'm at. I'm happy with the career I've had, and I'm happy with how it's going to end."</p>

Chaney is part of a Mississippi State linebacker unit that rivals any in the league. All three of the Bulldogs' starters are at least 240 pounds, and they all can run. The 6-1, 245-pound Chaney has been timed at just under 4.5 seconds.</p>

This sounds like player speak to me but part of me wants to believe this. I do have a hard time believing the 4.5 speed.... that's extremely fast for a guy that weighs 245 lbs.

I guess we'll see. Torbush is a blitzing DC, so I'm sure that appeals to Chaney more... But if Chaney is that fast, lets line him up at "dog saftey"...

Since he also played under Ellis Johnson, that sounds good.

the offense gets alot of pub with Mullen coming in as coach. I may be crazy but it's hard not too be pretty excited about the front 7. McPhee should wreck some havoc and bring some much needed swagger to a group that looked pretty dull and boring last year. I think he'll raise the play of the others on the front line. The LB crew based on word from the inside is as good a group as we've had. With solid freshmens depth along the front 4, I'm confident in what we've got going. I'm worried about the secondary though. Hopefully with pressure on the QB coming from up front (something that was non existent last year), we can cover up some of our secondary holes. I'm more excited to see the defense in action than our offense if thats possible.

...then we gave up some vs Arkansas to drop to #27, then dropped more after the Egg Bowl. But even in a 'bad' season like last year we had a solid defense. We can (or maybe even SHOULD) be better on defense this year than last.
