When the players come out and pretty much say it, you know it was bad. Usually they don't throw former coaches under the bus, but Chaney pretty much did. I think he could have been a great LB for us, but with injury and Croom, he underperformed big time.
He'a about the only good thing that came out of any defender Croom signed except Titus Brown. And to show you how the star rankings go, he was a 2 star coming out of high school.

I think Croom did a better job of recognizing talent than he gets credit for. The biggest problem was not that he couldn't see talent, it was that he coached down the talent once they were on the team. Everyone thought Relf was a joke that did not need to be wasting a scholarship before last season. After a season of actually being coached up, he was a servicable quarterback. We all assumed that Croom couldn't recognize talent. I think the issue was just how terrible he and his staff were at actual coaching.
like losing to several mid majors and of course, the black bears of Maine. The bad recruiting and watching some players get worse was more acceptable than that.
he had character and instilled that into all of our players. We need to be respectful and appreciate his time at Miss State. We love you Croom!
