That conference is meh and everybody that coaches there wins some games and flops when they leave.

Like him or hate him. He is a pretty good coach.
I think he'll do fine. I listened to his introductory speech when hired, and it was one of the best I've ever heard. Of course, some coach speak in it as most do, but he seems to add his own flavor. If he can get the team to buy in, he'll do well. There's enough talent in the Memphis metro area to field a good football team. Of course all the SEC teams recruit there and that's his main problem. If Memphis could get into a major conference like the Big12, it would serve them well when recruiting vs the SEC. And I understand Fred Smith's estate will leave a lot of dough to go to their NIL in all sports. Looks like a good landing spot at the right time for Huff.

Being a high school coach I got to meet him several times when he was at State. He came to recruit a kid at our place. He came in kicked his feet up, and was a dude. And I am telling you I have been around dudes with football knowledge, and he is up there. I know this will take some push back, but once the Lebby experiment is called good I would not be opposed to bringing Huff in. The man has won everywhere he has been. Given he has not had coaching experience at the SEC level as a head coach.

I would not have been opposed to hiring him instead of Lebby. In fact I would have preferred it. We could do a lot worse. And have. Twice.

Doesn't matter if he has SEC experience, some experience at Oklahoma is all that's needed

First I hope he wins 10 games there this year. So he is on our short list.

Speaking of aiming higher, if State hired Huff, it would be only the 2nd time State has hired a sitting head football coach since Allen McKeen in 1939. McKeen was HC at Memphis prior to becoming HC at State.

Leach was the first since McKeen.

Bellard was 'kind of' a sitting head coach. He had been at A&M for about 5 or 6 seasons or so and started 1978 4-0 but then lost 2 and resigned mid season kind of suddenly. The next year he came to MSU

employees don't get to decide the workplace conditions

in case you missed it, the players are now employees and they are paid to work and follow the rules

I'm not a big fan of Huff, but you can't deny how well he's done turning programs around quickly. I wonder how well he'll do at a program that has won consistently over the past 10-12 seasons and has higher expectations. If he can get them back to the top of the American, he would certainly be a top candidate for the job after Lebby gets shitcanned.
