Who knows. I imagine Strong will be able to get a DC job almost anywhere he'd like though, so Lexington is probably a long shot at best (and of course, there's that pesky issue of the DC job not being available at UK).

One good thing about CS, we wouldn't have to pay him a ton - initially.

His 10.6M buyout is decreased by whatever amount his next contract is so for him it doesnt really matter until the next contract.

His buyout is like $10M but is cut in half if he takes another job. Why take an asst job for like $500K that'll cost you $5M?

there are so many top level SEC teams that would scoop him up. would love to have him but we are several notches down the pecking order at this point.

I would love to see us be able to get Strong , if for just a couple of seasons as dc. I expect our offense to be really good next year. I think the defense can be much better also if Strong would come.

No. The man will get $10 million as long as he doesn't take another coaching job. Plus, he isn't going to take a DC job at UK. No connections and no incentive for him.

So... why should we keep Eliot? I know Stoops may keep him, but what is a good reason to do so?

At this stage I believe Elliot and Stoops are packaged, period.
STrong was snubbed at Florida and South Carolina. I kinda doubt he returns there.

Big ten perhaps?

Strong left UL stocked. UL fans thought the addition of Petrino to the caliber of players in the locker room was going to mean top level. I am glad to see Stoops win the UL game against Petrino's perceived best team and with Stoops' first full recruiting class.

Strong's ability, as a dc, is only as good as the players he has on hand. Bring in Hurt and he might be a world beater.

So we are getting rid of DJ 'I kinda suck' Elliot? That would be shocking news to me.
Hell I expect him to be the next head coach here after Stoops lol. just joking!
Honestly I would've NEVER hired DJ in the first place. The guy just looks like a goomer to me. He aint worth more than crap in a paper bag.
Elliot should refund his salary. Stoops ran the defense this year.

I look for Ohio State's DC to get a mid-major HC job and Strong to return to Urban.

Very likely scenario. Strong and Meyer are tight. Schiano is probably gone from OSU after this season.

Or I could see Strong winding up at some place like Purdue. Low expectations, so no Texas like pressure to start. Strong is a defensive genius, he needs to bring in a good OC, but seems to have found one at Texas (too late to save him though). Strong has deep recruiting ties in Florida and Texas. They hire him asking him to do there what he did at UofL after Kragthorpe. They'll give him time to build. Go 6-6 by his second season and he's a hero. I think he'd be a good fit there.

I'd remind you that besides DC Eliot is also the OLB coach, that's Ware and Allen plus the rising Bonner and Kengera. Those guys are progressing nicely.

We have one of the best DC in Coach Stoops. What's wrong with him helping call the defensive plays. Several HC's call the offensive plays.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

This will never happen. NEVER. 0 % chance. we have a better shot at Bob Stoops getting fired and becoming our DC .... which is .0001% chance but thats still better than the odds of Strong coming here as DC. He's most likely going to get a head coaching job somewhere.

strong has a history of coaching outside linebackers and defensive ends. So he would fit right in nicely in the place of Elliot

Strong coming to UK in any form is delusional. He wants another HC gig and he will go where he knows he can get the best players and keep failure to a minimum.

Strong's ego will never let him be the DC at UofL's rival...

Not after being the HC at Louisville.
Unlike a certain basketball coach (cough, cough) who was a HC at a certain school and went on to become HC at their biggest rival.
Think basketball.

Does that same logic count for assistants? Lamar Thomas left UofL directly for UK.

Look for him to end up at OSU or Alabama as some sort of unpaid "grad assistant"...everybody wins that way...he keeps his buyout and whomever lands him gets a sugar bowl winning coach...

There's nothing to suggest that Strong has tied is future to UL in anyway. Strong previously lobbied to be the UK coach. If Strong returns to a DC role then UK is as likely as any other.

The thing that might stop it is that we finally got a good mix of players and system. I doubt that Stoops wants to go in a different direction. If Strong comes in then he would have to be allowed to establish his system. I believe this will be Stoops' system regardless of who the actual DC is.

The problem with Eliot is that he was relieved of his responsibilities. Stoops even did this in a public way. The defense immediately got better. For many reasons you can't just go back to the way it was.

he will find a pretty decent spot to land but I think it would be great for UK plus with the HC experience that would be huge but he will have much bigger opportunities

As some have pointed out above.... This talk is insane. Charlly ain't gonna be the DC anywhere but maybe a blueblood program. Otherwise he takes a HC gig at a school like Purdue or someplace with no expectations ala Lovie Smith. Like in any profession, someone with HC experience isn't looking to go backwards. Sure he got fired, but from one of college footballs biggest gigs. I say he lands on his feet as HC again soon. Dude set UT up, Herman is stepping into a great situation. Charlly himself said whoever coaches UT next year will win 10 games and he is right. They are loaded with young talent. If they would've given him another year, he was ready to start winning big
