Chase is 5-0 this year, albeit their competition has been poor at best. Nevertheless, that builds confidence in a team. I know we are banged up from the South Point game but this should be a win for us. Has anyone seen Chase this year? Are they still running the Wing-T?

Chase is 5-0 but against teams that are a combined 6-23.. However they have went over 50 the last 3 games.. But they haven't played anyone close to the quality of Burns and honestly couldn't even come close to anyone Burns has played so far... This one might be close for a quarter, but Burns wins big...

Bulldogs 49-14

Outside of Shelby, I don't think Burns loses again in the regular season

You're right, on paper we should win every game other than the Shelby one. That one is probably up in the air. But, that's why we play the game.
I didn't mean that to sound like I think Burns losses the Shelby game... Just that's the only game Burns will get tested the rest of the year... I think Shelby is probably a bit better at this point, but it'll definitely be a battle.. Or at least should be

Burns still cant sleep, this team is a few bad plays or God forbid an injury or 2 away from being in trouble. I guess you can say that for every team though. Chase will be hungry and confident Im sure. Id like to see us start fast and break some spirits.

Seems like I recall they now have a former Crust DC as head coach now. Im sure he brought a new attitude....and that's nothing against coach Bailey. This could be a trap game for the Dogs but I don't think Coach Devine lets that happen. Chase will have no answer for #8. Burns by 21.

They do have the old DC from crust (as you say :)) and he has those guys excited about football !!! I know a lot of kids in that team and they are thinking they are world beaters (that’s a good thing ). Lots of excitement at Chase and lots of kids came out to play also. Truly happy for the kids but Friday night will tell them where they actually are. Good luck to both teams but Bulldogs will be too much for the Trojans

Well chase and burns in the last few years while burns has won, they have typically been very competitive games. I remember that squires kid who was the fastest in the state .

I have seen years were Chase has started good, usually with the weaker schedule. But this year they are destroying opponents. The last three weeks they have scored 50 or more. With that being said Burns wins this week 42 to 14.

Chase had some of the fastest skill players at the shrine bowl combine. For them to be so bad more often than not, they usually have a couple of really good athletes on their team, and they have a former player currently in the NFL in Carlos Watkins.

Heard his name yesterday during the Panthers game.. Can't remember if it was a sack or he just got pressure

I coached against him in basketball too. His Chase team won 3 games all year but he won POY in the conference. He was all they had, so every team put game plans around him. He still averaged 20+ ppg and 10+ rpg. Just an amazing athlete in person.

30+ rpg? Honestly not sure I've heard of that no matter what level

Although I think this is the most “legit” team chase has ever had, I think chase realizes where they stand this week. Too much grit and want from the dogs. I see them walking away late, Burns by 3 TD’s

He’s young, my man. He’s not like you, remembering Chase teams from the 60s, or whenever Chuck McSwain played.:)

The 2013 team with Carlos Watkins was pretty good too but not enough to dominate Cleveland County as their coach proclaimed at the beginning of the season (except a down KM team). I can remember SaDarius Byers carrying 5 Trojans on his back to the end zone when we played them one year. I think I’m thinking of 2011.

Lol. I do remember in the 70’s Chase having some great teams. And don’t forget that 98 playoff game at their place. We won and Coach Norman went on and won his first State Championship.

Pretty sure Chase has no illusions on both their current record (competition) and capabilities. They are in the midst of a program culture change and it's going to take time.

1978 SW Conf Regular Season, East Gaston's only conference loss was to Chase. Shelby ends up upsetting Chase in the final game of the season, which allows East Gaston to share it's only SW Conference Championship and make our first playoff appearance. Those Chase Team's in the 70's were loaded. Their head coach back then was John Keeter is a Stanley native.

Has ever had?

I don’t mean “ever” sorry for the ignorance in wording. I mean as of late.

What I realistically meant by that was they have a coach that I think is going to give them their best opportunity to succeed a little now and in coming years as much as they can with what talent they have.

Chase people would know better than me, but the best Chase team in my opinion was the 1976 one with Harris and Vickers in the backfield. One was a bull and the other could fly. They blew everyone out that year till maybe 2nd round playoff game against Shelby at Gardner Webb. Not sure on what round it was.

Yeah if not for Shelby.... Rutherford co (east &chase ) could possibly have had a state title in football :)

That 2005 I think East team was really good and could have won a state title. They were just as good as Shelby was that year. The biggest difference was we had a Bus and you guys didn't.

Not only did Coach Keeter have some really great teams in the 70s and early 80s but he also had a helluva coaching staff. I’m not sure how many years Keeter had Mickey Lineberger as an assistant.

Younger folks on here just don't know how good those McSwain brothers at Chase were in the 70's. Both played in the NFL.

Yep. Rodney was a receiver for the New England Patriots and Chuck was running back for the Dallas Cowboys. Chase has never beat Shelby but has tied them once or twice when the McSwains were there.

Throw in Billy Ray Vickers too, for grins. I knew that about the Chase-Shelby series. That is really hard to believe.
